He also told me Multivan has air-con ducting to the roof so it cannot be cut through to fit a pop top. When they use a transporter T5 for a conversion there is no air-con ducting to the back section at all. I am not sure if it is going to be comfortable for those sitting at the back.
I have seen it done and i will trawl the internet for picture of it!
I think they may be on my spare hard drive will get back to you later.
Really? I would really like to know about this. How do they convert the aircon ducting? Thanks.
I do want air-con at the back, all the curtain airbags, ESP etc and the rail inside a Multivan. If I go for a Transporter conversion all these will not be included. As I said before I want a family vehicle for day-to-day trip, and the safety features are very important.
Something like this Sortimo Speedwave Mobile Kitchen from the UK commercial accessories range? Can go in main cabin as shown below or the trunk under the bench as shown in the catalog.
Brabo, this one looks interesting but most likely very expensive to import. Keep in mind that although the Australian kombi beach internal bed layout is the same as the german one, the sliding door is on the opposite side. This means that the bed is towards the opposite side to the sliding door so the width needed for this cabinet is not available near the wall. Due to this, if anything as deep as this cabinet is placed there, the sliding drawer under the rear bench seat cannot be opened. It took me a while to understand why they could fit this cabinet where they did in the picture you provided.
Multiplexman, have you reversed the seat position in your beach yet, I am interested about how this works out.
Brian
Yes - the bench is in the rails closest to the sliding door now. Only issue was the plastic trim piece on the front of the bench seat that fouled the B pillar. It is no more.
I have finally decided to go with four internal modules.
- sink unit with integrated water stowage (I could not justify a dedicated external tank, plumbing, calorifier, extra complexity...)
- fridge unit to house my Waeco (on slides) with stowage in a drawer below
- full wardrobe module for the rear quarter (house my electronics/mobile office and the Webasto Thermo Top C which I never use)
- drawers at the rear (top of which will perform same function as the original Multiflex board).
I will lock these modules into the existing tracks using T nuts with quarter turn cam fittings.
The Sortimo gear looks great and will definitely be first rate. However I fear it will super expensive after freight, duty and GST.
BTW the Sortimo depth of 398mm for their modules matches the clearance I have measured between the bench and the driver's side internal wall panel. I reckon you could squeeze another couple cms...
The only "extras" I could add are overhead stowage bins over the driver's side modules and perhaps across from the wardrobe unit.
Good luck with your design I hope it works well, just one question, you mention T nuts that fit the rails, I have been looking everywhere for those, can you reveal what you have and where they can be bought.
