Transporter, would you have some more details about the option of an adaptor for RCD510 to connect RVC?
Does RCD510 have some sort of video input at the back or front? Is that what the adaptor is for? What kind of an adaptor would be suitable? Thanks for commenting.

Here is a well known brand alternative that promises CANBUS integration, SatNav and BT (Parrot no less). Mosfet Amp and AVC input for your aftermarket camera! Off eBay for about $750 I believe, also available from any Pioneer stockist. Fits straight into 2012 T5 dash.

I agree with Transporter, my options would be as follows:
      1. OEM RNS510/RCD510 with VW BT module
      2. This Pioneer
      3. ANS/DNS radios
      4. any other Chinese radios
Yes I had a look at this one the other day all I did not like was the piddly little screen seems a shame to make a compartible unit and only incorporate such a small screen area , maybe I am just fussy as I like the full screen 8inch one that I have .Here is a review not mine but it has merit .http://www.cnet.com.au/pioneer-avic-...-339298117.htm

I got an adapter for the not OEM RVC from Audi upgrades (forum sponsor). To use it with the RCD510 you must have the yellow 26 pin connector at the back in the unit. But, if you have the 26 pin connector, don't get the adapter for the non OEM RVC, get the OEM RVC for the Multivan or Amarok it will connect straight into that 26 pin connector for the similar cost. I only opted for the video adapter because I've already fitted the aftermarket RVC in that Touareg and don't want to install the handle RVC into the tailgate (not the easiest thing to do, if done properly)

That's what I would do. IMO, the RCD510 and the RNS510 are far superior to Chinese units, in the way how they function.

Sorry was half asleep when I replied. What is the username of Audi upgrades so I can PM them about the RVC adapter?

So are there any mods needed to fit an RNS510 or RCD510? or do they just plug straight in?

So does the RNS510 and/or the RCD510 fill the gap in my dash exactly? Or will I need adapter plates if I take this option?

I'm picking up a 2012 T5 on Monday (although it was made 2010 and complianced 2012) and I want to fit a 2-din stereo and reversing camera.

Is Can-Bus an issue for the sterio requiring an adapter? Or is the only thing I need the aerial adapter? And last question is where is the best source for the parts?

An image of the stereo is below so everyone knows the model

                  Thanks in advance

You shouldn't need an adapter for this one. The RNS510 bolts straight in. Give liquidforce a call, he will sort you out, especially if you need the RVC as well.

Sweet so just plug in the RNS510, VW bluetooth module and the RVC from liquidforce? No issues with the MFD or anything else?

So I was doing some reading on this in the other threads and it appears fitting the bluetooth can be a PITA. What's the issues with this?

Also what nobody has anwered here is why does the head unit have to integrate to CANBUS? Cant a unit be connected to earth, +ve, acc(+ve) and speakers to run independently of the car?

You could wire it independently as you describe but some features may not work , for instance the factory wiring has the reverse camera trigger wire so you would need to use some of the factory wires along with the new ones . Look I can only repeat what I said and it is a personal opinion if you buy one of the Chinese ones it comes with every thing you will need adaptor for Can bus the lot and Bluetooth is a breeze you just put your phone no matter what brand into discovery and it will find the head unit then it will ask you for the head unit code usually 0000 or 1234 and that's it you will have all your contacts and you can use the head unit to control your music streaming via Bluetooth answer calls everything a reverse camera will set you back an extra $25 Most units will come with Digital TV built in GPS Ipod connection USB ports and heaps of extra connections for rear headrest DVD players and Amplifiers . Probably the hardest part of installing is tucking all the wires back behind the unit as you slide it back into place , but it does look the same as any VW units except its just CHINESE ! Personal Opinion please remember .

Yes but then how does the sound quality compare? And I've heard the chinese units are not good for radio

                            Plus which chinese unit

Okay my last contribution on this one , okay the Chinese units are cheap and yes the radio is not very good but is it the unit or is it the VW antennae system ??? it has been a very known problem for some years that some aftermarket and well known brands have problems being compatible with the VW antennae system not just in the Vans lots of other models report the same problem . Quality of sound again horses for courses if you are an audiophile don,t buy Chinese , I am a bit of a music nutter and have been for over 40plus years up until a few years back I had nothing less than top of range Pioneer systems in my cars . But as time has moved on and we all look for that little extra like GPS Bluetooth and all the other things these were not available through Pioneer etc , even today Pioneer do not have the same features that I like in our Chinese one . Now for sound quality what speakers do you run stock or aftermarket ?? all of our vans have had speaker upgrades if you saw how cheap the factory ones are it is shameful . I always retro fit Pioneer or Kenwood or Alpine speakers with splits for the high and mid range frequencies and then subwoofers . My work van has two 12 inch Pioneer subs tucked away behind my compressor in the rear , then I am running two amplifiers one for subs only and one four channel for tweeters and midrange . I will agree the volume that I was able to achieve with the older pioneer unit cannot be matched by the Chinese it is probably their Achilles heel as their preamp output is not stable so I have fitted a Line Driver which increase the out put from the head unit from 2 volts up to 9 volts stable which gives a 28 db gain . Am I happy with that set up ? hell yes I still get complaints from my neighbour's all on acreage when I drive by , if you are connecting the head unit on its own without amplifiers I cannot comment on quality as the "claimed " 50 watt x 4 by the Chinese could not be guaranteed . Once you get past halfway in volume you will start to get distortion , that's why I run mine through amps gives a much better sound quality at a lower volume . The Chinese have several manufacturers and many of them are sold through a variety of sellers , in some cases I have seen Australian suppliers selling the identical unit I could buy from China direct at ridiculous marked up prices so its your choice , I have posted my favourite further back on this post but in case you missed it vw au items - Get great deals on Special Car DVD Player items on eBay Stores!
