  • T5.1 Heater control valve

On a recent 16,000km trip round Australia (when we had some COLD weather) the heater in the T5.1 ceased working. If the car was idling for some minutes, there was a VERY small amount of heating of the air, but turning on the fan resulted in no heat when the temp dial was on maximum. I THOUGHT I could hear a slight mechanical noise when I operated the temp dial with my ear to the firewall (a chiropractor should be able to sort me out though)
I had a good look at the electrics behind the dash, but to no avail.
What is involved in testing and replacing the control valve? I think I have found it available for the T5.1 but I have yet to find how I actually get at it. I am presuming this is from the inside of the firewall as there are not cables exiting the firewall in the appropriate location. What panels have to be removed?

    ANY info/suggestions most welcome.

    Thanks folks.

Some of the info and diagrams in this thread might be helpful: https://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/threads/...&sortby=oldest

The control valve is a cheap part and prone to failure - luckily in your case it would appear to have failed with the valve open.

This should be the correct replacement part for a T5.1 with your 132kw bitdi engine: https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/vemo-v15-77-0010

      Lucas,
      Thanks so much!
I really appreciate your pointing me to this thread. I HAD searched, but to no avail. There's great help there and when all the dust is out of my van, I'll get down to important things- though our spring has arrived, with warmer weather.
      Thanks again.

This thread and the thread referred to by Lucas HAVE been useful thanks, but I haven't yet solved my issue.

I have my RHD 2011 T5.1 in Avogadro's number of pieces- with not so many screws!

Symptoms have been: NO heating but otherwise climate control system has worked as expected.

I have looked at whether the Heater flap (that Mac303 refers to in his photo) moved when the temperature control knob is turned. There IS a slight whirring and movement of the white end of the shaft. The movement doesn't occur until the last "click" of the heater control knob, though the whirring is a few clicks either side of it.

SHOULD the control flap (as seen by feeling the white nylon end of shaft in the diagram he shows) move for each click of the temperature knob, only from the middle of the dial or only right at the end of the dial?

I'm ordering a cheap replacement for the heater flap servo but I sure would appreciate further comment. SOME of my dash will remain as is for a couple of weeks.

I look forward to any further comments by those more expert that I.

        Thanks folks,

        Dave
