Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i fixed both my locks by lubing the doorlock mechanism internally. Thats all it needed.

Ok so I finally got the door open ! I had to drill holes in the door pillar, to insert a small socket spanner so i could loosen the from behind the 2 machine screws that hold the striker plate, which allowed me to pry the door open enough to then loosen the inner screws of the outer door handle and lock its self, Once i got the lock, out of the door, I used 2 screwdrivers to try and open the lock mechanism from inside but to no avail, I then managed with needle nose pliers to finish undoing the 2 machine screw on the striker plate which allowed me to open the door and then i could manipulate the latch, to release the striker from the latch, BINGO. It appears the latch had rolled over the first ( or safety position ) before the door was closed so the striker was pushed into the latch when i closed the door and jammed at the second ( or locked positions) I will hunt around for a new latch and install it, as the old one seems very loose and the spring seems weak, Ray
