Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I've had a win....and now must brag

    Hey y'all

As we know alloy wheels to fit the T4 are like rocking horse manure in Australia. Only one or two companies supply them new (even then they are custom drilled), VW branded wheels are bloody expensive and used sets are few and far between. And of course they must be load rated...

So imagine my surprise when I attended my local tyre place this morn to get tyres loaded back onto my newly powdercoated steelies when Old Mate declares in passing that "I have a set of alloys that might fit your truck". So we head out the back and what do you know....a set of four 15x7 factory nine spoke alloy wheels from the Caravelle sits there on the rack, with a sparrows nest. All are in very good shape

Critical question. How much? Reply is AU$300 plus fitting......for the set. That is dead set bargain as a new alloy would cost me more than that for each wheel!!

Done. They're on the DOKA now with the existing 205/65R15C tyres and they look very schmick. They are ET37 by the by too whil the steelies are ET55.

So now I have seven 15" steelies (six are powdercoated charcoal) plus another four alloys......all for one vehicle!!

Some people are born lucky, some inherit luck....and others have luck thrust upon them! Which applies to you?

I have 6 VW alloys for Dietrich, only 1 to go.

Any pics of the charcoal rims on the TCab?

This is how the Great White Whale used to look.....

Actually I'm a little tic-ed off. I've spent a bit of time and money on these powdercoated rims. But before I started I asked the very same bloke at the tyre shop about alloys for DOKA and he only talked about new ones...yet these used alloys had been there for a few months. Oh well!!

By the by....same bloke is expecting some 17" factory alloys from a T5 to come in very soon - won't fit on a T4 because they have a PCD of 5x120 (same as a Commodore apparently) but if anyone want's them....

...or you could buy four of my steelies already finished in that colour!

I might be wrong but they look like late passat wheels, Im pretty sure the T4's are the same stud pattern as passats, my mate just fitted some A8 18inch wheels on his T4.

They do don't they. But I'm almost certain they aren't.

There was a tyre and wheel in the same shop for repair from a late model Golf or Passat and it was the spitting image of this wheel except there was a slight flare or thickening in the sides of rim end of each 'spoke'. The killer however was that this Golf wheel was very much lighter than these wheels of mine - Golf tyre and wheel almost weighed less than these new rims .

Seano, I,ve never seen them on a Carvelle (or Transporter). But, the main thing is they are rated, and they look good!

                          Good buy.
