You've been nailed by the VW Parts system.....the dealer doesn't set the dollars for the parts. VW does. The dealer merely passes them on.

In fact they generally don't even know the value of the parts when they order them......the dealer's parts interpreter does....but he/she/it is merely a bureaucrat and just fills out the forms.

My own dealer nearly had conniptions when he realised that the genuine CV boot kit I'd just had fitted was going to cost me $120......when the non-genuine boot kit on the rear CV that had also been fitted cost just $10. I think he was more conerned at my reaction.....with very good reason.

I just had the 45000 km service at 42000kms, and total from Pickering's VW Townsville (no other option) was $457.50

      Oil: $194
      Oil Filter $17.94
      Sump Plug $4.16
      Engine Oil flush $36.31
      Fuel System Cleaner $22.25
      Haz Waste $3.53
      Sundry 6.00
      Labour $132
      Tax $41.

Service was great but it would be interesting to see if the cost would be lower if there was competition. Ah well, one of the joys of country life.

      Merry Christmas all.

I have a t5 and in future when I come due for car changover, if Toyota have picked up their act with their taragos, I won't go back to VW. Like the vw multivan but it annoyse me how they charge like wounded bulls

I was going to use ultratune until I quizzed them on what oil they would be putting into the 96kw TDI engine of my 2006 kombi, and they didn't know, but thought it would more than likely meet the spec!!!!

          I cancelled the appointment immediately.

You got in before I could reply Brian, but your point is spot on.Ultra tune etc are fine for Commodore, Falcon, Corolla and other mass market vehicles, but I wouldn't consider them for my T5 due to their lack of familiarity with the vehicle.
I'd rather pay top dollar at the dealership than let some one stumble or learn on my van.
I had the same poor level of service with O'Brian's windshields last month. They made a mess of my car through not having done one recently.
There may be lots of T5's down Sth, but not many on the road up here in Nth QLD.

              I agree 100%.

The windscreen thing is a worry too, because mine has had a long crack accross the top behind the drivers sunscreen for over a year now. I am just keeping it until some real damage is done in the field of view.

I would have picked O'Brien to do mine, what damage did they do while changing it?

Probably more shoddy workmanship than anything.
They tore the dash mat off the dash which tore the hands free mic away from its wiring.
They tore the reversing sensor off the mirror and left it hanging.
They buggered up the trim in front of the windscreen (now lost its tension)
Side trim was not replaced correctly.
Car was smeared with black goo that they use to seal the screen.
A whole bunch of rubbish (paper) was actually left in behind the screen and collected at the intake vent in the left corner.
I normally get a new windshield every 6 months in one of my cars, and have had great service from this mob, but I think they had new workers or owners. I did complain the them (deaf) and O Brian HQ.
It's be a while before I use them again.
                Merry Christmas.

                Ken.

                  15,000 km / 2 year service - $355 including brake fluid flush

                  Cars Autohaus Thornleigh NSW 02 9980 7980
                  David Kempston - Service
Terry Brown - Service & Parts

I cleaned the van before hand and removed the engine cover to make it easier and more pleasant for the tech. Van was handed back in the same condition - I'm happy

                  Cheers, MM

PS They noted the dreaded "clonk". I will be returning to see if VW has a solution for this now... Might as well while it is in warranty.

                    Clonk Fixed

Picked up the Kombi after lunch - steering joint replaced = "clonk" gone.

                    2 from 2 - I'm happy with Autohaus.
