  • T5 Service Costs from Dealership

Just for anyone's interest (as the Poms have been fairly active with this subject on other sites) 30,000 km 2 year Intermediate service on my 2007 T5 TDI Van was $604.
Oil used was VW50700 and cost $166.
    Labour was $275
Dealership was Townsville VW. Took 3 hours from delivery to receipt of vehicle and I was very happy with the service.

    Best wishes all.

    Ken.

I had the same service six months ago, and the dealer put 1 x 5 litres and 4 x 1 litre bottles in - more expensive than 2 x 5 litre bottles. I complained, and they at least gave me a litre at no charge. Can't remember what the actual cost was, as they put a tow bar on at the same time.

There's a thing. I was quoted $1500 to fit the genuine VW tow bar at Barlow World 5 Dock, but got it fitted at VW Canberra for $1400 (due to the fact I was in Canberra at the time). Pays to shop around even with OEM parts and service if you have the luxury. Here in Townsville, we only have the one dealership for 400kms. Just as well I was happy with the service.
Re oil bottles used, I wouldn't have a clue what they did re this.

        Best wishes for 2009 fellas.

From memory the cost for the tow bar and service was about $1,600. Good price that surprised me, after having been quote $1,500 just for the bar.

Buy the tow bar from spare parts counter approx $750 and fit it yourself.
            should take you 2hrs max.
I have removed and fitted mine twice now. Quoted $500 plus for r/r

30k service at Burwin's Ferntree Gully in July 08; $585. Oil 7.5l $126.75. Labour $286. Some extra checking and air & pollen filters replaced as it was after my Cape Yorke trip. Also listed 'changed brake system hydraulic fliud' but there was no seperate cost for fluid? Only 14 months from new, but maybe they tested it, & maybe it was affected by all the river crossings.

PS. 'Factory' towbar option from Trakka when new, $900/$1000 (can't quite remember), but it was a Hayman Reese, not the European VW style.

Did you do the wiring as well as that is the price that seems to cost a lot in my quoted prices. The CAN-BUS system requires either an additional loom and/or the VAGCAT adjustment to allow for the rear parking sensors. It runs near to $500 just for the electrics.

                  Yep, same with mine.
The van needs to be told it can tow via the diagnostics after the wiring loom is fitted. It's not just 'fit a bar' and drive off due to the Can Bus system.
My VW genuine tow bar set up is a Hayman Reese style with releasable hitch. I don't think the European style is cleared for Oz, so I think it's the only type you can get here.

While at the dealership the other day getting the service done, I spoke with the parts manager who advised me the reason there are bugger all accessories for the T5 van compared to the UK, Europe, is Australian design standards. God we are so over regulated!

I tried identifying a leather steering wheel, leather gear shift knob and lowering springs, but the VW system wouldn't identify anything. I need to provide a VIN from another van with these items fitted stock to be able to ID them.

                  Best wishes all.

It pays to ring around. I rang two dealers in my area for a service quote. One was $100 cheaper than the other. I did not take it to either as I have a euro mechanic who does work on my old mercedes 280e. He has the vagcom system or what ever its called and can run full diagnostics. The other advantage is that I can stand in the work shop with him and see the work being done and he is cheaper than the dealers.

I agree that we are way over regulated.

I remove and refitted the wiring loom aswell, no can bus input for transporters /multivan without sensors.

Bugger, just when I was feeling good about my local dealer!
That's the thing, there's not another VW dealer for 300kms from here.
I want to take the van back to them as well as I seem to have developed the dreaded T5 steering clunk.

Just had the 60000 Km service which was OK with a total of $449.61 which I thought was reasonable, I did however ask for the wipers to be replaced and to my utter disbelief they charged $93.10 for two wiper blades and $22.00 to fit them. I am attempting to ring the dealer and get them to justify this exorbitant amount. They are available at specialist car spares for about $28 each so i can't see how they can mark up the price that much.
