Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have been talking with our local VW dealer about the beach.[model 6.1] The sales lady has confirmed that the new Transporter[I guess model7] on which the California was based is a joint production with Ford. Basically a Ford with a VW badge. If I understand correctly the Multivan will still be built in Germany. She also said they have 2 German built Beach in stores, one in 2WD around $103k & the other a 4 Motion $119k.
My Question is has anyone here heard about the joint venture with Ford for the new Transporter?

Makes sense as the new Amarok is basically a Ford Ranger with a VW badge on it.

Up to you, but no way I'd pay that kind of money for a Ford engine. It's what puts me off an older Range Rover, cool looking as they may be,

I have no intension of purchasing one, the posting was purely academic interest. It's a long time since I viewed the Beach model that some on this forum have purchased & still own. Owning a full camper, I wouldn't be able to cope without the elevating roof, even 20 years ago. VW have addressed this issue, for me anyway, by now including this now as standard fitment. I, like Greg would not be interested in a badged Ford product. One point of interest is they will allow the purchaser to have their preferred conversion Co. to carry out their fitment before taking delivery & save some money & still retain full warranty.
