Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Opinions: Disconnecting batteries when away from the van (1month+)

    Hi all,

About to head on holiday (not in the van) for around a month - have seen some mixed opinions online in my research about disconnecting both the starter and 2nd battery while i'm gone.

Does anyone have experience or opinions on disconnecting the 2nd battery (lithium) while i'm away? No power will be drawn (not running anything) while i'm gone - is it worth it?

I'd imagine the newer batteries are capable of dealing with this length of time?

    Any opinions appreciated.

    Cheers

You do have the code for the sound equipment?

The battery should last for a month ok assuming its in decent condition to begin with.

The other alternative is to buy a smart charger and leave that connected while you are away. Ctek and Noco make good ones (ive got a Ctek).

I have a drain on my starter battery, so I disconnect it all the time without issue. Need to sort it, it's quite annoying.

The Lithium will be fine sitting there charged, so I'd disconnect it too just to be safe.

If you don't have drain on the batteries, then no need to disconnect at all!
