Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Battery replacement registration/coding

    Hi all,

I am seeking advice on a definitive date T5s require coding/registration to account for a new replacement battery? Is this required for a 2008 model?

I am sort of mystified by all of this, and isn't battery charging from the alternator adjusted according to battery level? This was never a thing with older vehicles, where batteries were simply replaced!

    Cheers,

    Scott

    Not required on a 2008.

Put the correct battery in, and away you go.

Thanks for the quick response! I put a new correct spec Varta in about a week ago.

      Cheers,
      Scott

All you may need to do is reset your power windows by driving them to the close point and thats it ,also code the radio but you should have its code in the owners log books .

Thanks Sunny. Radio/CD keeps it presets on mine, and windows sort them shelves out after a few goes. Still chasing a voltage drop per separate post.

Later VW models were a bit fussy when you fitted a new battery , when I sold my sons GTI the battery had died so I wasn,t prepared to spend over $500 on a battery just for the start stop system . Fitted a new one and the auto guy said it would throw up a few fault codes which then dissapeared a few kilometres down the road , sorted itself out .
