My 04/10 T5 cruise control cuts out when I hit a rough bit of road, like a culvert repair. Has anyone else come across this problem?

A few years ago mine was cutting out whenever I turned the blinkers on, so if I was going along a two lane highway and I wanted to change lanes to go by another car, the cruise control would turn off. Turned out to be an intermittently broken wire in the blinker stalk, nothing that a new $500 blinker stalk couldn't fix.

Yours will be probably be something different, possibly an intermittent brake light switch or some other trivial thing.

Also, along this line, does the glow plug light in the dash, come on when on a rough road?

Cruise control should shut off if any of the traction / stability controls activate. Could be that the rough road sees a loss of traction even for a split second.

Also, I think it is normal (but annoying) for the Cruise control to shut off when using indicator to change lane, at that has been the case for my 08 Multivan from new.

And to add if it is not normal for the cruise to cancel with the blinkers on, I am not going to worry too much as I hardly use the cruise control.

Mine has never done that from new until a wire break occurred in the blinker stalk, and after I replace the stalk it went back to not disconnecting when the blinkers were used.

Okay thanks for clarifying Brian. Unfortunately mine has done it from new. I put it down to an 'undocumented feature' (. Cheers, Scott.

Shame. I get significantly better economy using cruise control over longer distances with my 08 (o7 build).

I think vw overthought the safety angle because on the way to Broken Hill when I was having a rest from driving my missus didn’t understand the cruise control turning off .

I can sort of understand the safety aspect as ours cut out suddenly on a wet road when the traction control kicked in , obviously you don,t want the car to be still accelerating when traction with the road is lost . Caused me a moment of WTF when it happened !!
