Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Transporter Steering wheel retrofit options

Hi all, I’m mostly certain this has been posted before, but I’m new here and I’m struggling using the search function.

I have a T5.1 Transporter and I’m hoping to change the steering wheel to a Multi-function. There’s a few wrecked Vehicles around so I’m wondering what’s required for this upgrade? Will I need to purchase the SWCM with the wheel, and then Code using VCDS?

I’m ideally hoping to retro fit a Mk6 Golf GTI wheel

    Thanks in advance

Forget it I tried already and gave up its not just the wheel but wiring looms and then the body control module blah blah blah . You will be amazed how complex it becomes . If its just stereo controls then do what I did and fitted an aftermarket stereo and then on steering wheel controls . Let me know if thats what your after and I.ll post the photos of both our T,5s with different controls in each one .

Matt Brooke at VW T5 Upgrades in the UK does it regularly, maybe he could offer more advice. Find him on FB.
