Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gearbox and rear diff oil - looking for recommendations

Gearbox and rear diff oil - looking for recommendations and quantities?

    6 speed manual 132kw 2011 4Motion

What are people using and is there anywhere online to direct me to the quantities for both gearbox and rear diff? AKA a service schedule?
Also the frequency they should have been changed because there’s not much in my service manual and I have a slight leak from the drain plug on the box so need a new crush washer. I’d like to have it before I dump the oil at the next service at 180,00kms.
And also service the rear electronic diff lock diff if that makes sense. I’ve seen it done online before but can’t remember where?

    TIA Markee

Not such a thing as rear electronic diff lock on Transporters (only mechanical). You probably mean Haldex unit.
Oil quantities and recommendations can be found in this thread T5 FAQ and How to THREAD (up to August 2009).
The 5cyl. T5 and newer 4cyl. have the same transmission and the rear diff.
For the gearbox I’d go with Penrite ProGear 70W-75, it works well.
In the rear diff I use TOTAL TRANSMISSION DUAL 9 FE 75W-90
    Changing it, is straight forward.

Thanks mate and yeah the Haldex unit is what I was thinking of. Cheers.

I’ll have a read through that thread tonight for some info.
