  • 2011 4motion t5. 1 doors thumping over bumps.

Does anyone else's door (s) do this? I go over sharp corrugations on the road eg a bott hole or a big cats eye and the doors thump up and down in the frame. Is there a fix for this? Is it a sagging hinge or can I put a rubber pad between the bottom of the door and the door frame?

It's starting to get really annoying...

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about your model , but on our T5 Transporter 2011 there is a seal missing from the front doors . It seems that VW only fit the aditional seals to top spec models , when ours was delivered the door shutting experience was way down on the ads that were on TV at the time when they compared other cars to VW Golf doors which shut with a definite clunk . Ours bounced back on the strikers you could see them rebound , when I took the van back for its first service all they would do was lubricate the seal {it,s no wonder many like me don,t go back after warranty they just don,t get it !!!} So there is an additional seal you can buy which would put additional pressure on the door and prevent excessive movement .T5/T5.1/T6 Front Door Seal - Vee Dub Transporters

Yeah looking at getting some thicker seals from Clarke rubber. But might look at finding the gap between the bottom of the door and the body.

My passenger door did that, and it was the bottom of the door hitting the sill. It is too close, yet the door isn't sagging, its like the door is a bit too big up and down so there is a very small clearance at the bottom. If you look at the sill just under the door at the lock end, is there any paint worn off the sill where it would hit ?

I think they only compared the Golf and maybe other passenger cars doors and not the vans. At least I didn’t see such ad.
Though on the T6.1 vans, I saw the reviewer on the YouTube who couldn’t get enough of that nice sound when the door was shutting.

My old T5 4motion was shutting ok with no doors knocking.

Input some felt at the top corner of the door and hey presto... No more thumping. I will look into the additional seal as mine bounce back after it closes. Might have something to do with the corrugations this used to live on before I bought it.

There are a few videos on YouTube about making your van doors sound like a Golf closing................some are selling kits and others are DIY.
