Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Crawling in Sydney traffic with DSG

Wondering if there is any benefit to trying to shift gears manually rather then letting the DSG hunt back and forth when you have to do the extended crawl through slow traffic?

Just get one with Driver assist... no need to do nothing. Will brakes stops and accelerates by itself.

Yes driver assist would be very nice, but don't see a retrofit to my van happening

With my regular commute, although I don't have creeping city traffic, I've found myself using D, S, & manual for different parts of the journey depending on the conditions. Manual mode may reduce the number of gear changes & have a more fun & engaging drive & does still down-shift for you if the revs get too low.
This is my first vehicle in 35 years that isn't a manual & i'm quite enjoying the transmission! I probably would have bought a manual though, if it were available.
