Trafic is supposedly being replaced by years end in EU so maybe 2020 for us.

And obviously an upgraded T6.1 although Transporter information hasn't been released, only Multivan so far with no info for us locally yet.

Vito must also soon be due for an upgrade, they cannot keep that dash as it's two gens behind it's car siblings and the Sprinter shows where it should be going.

Not sure why they go on and on about AEB across the various models , if the van is insured then hey thats all you need . Although I doubt any insurance company gives a discount for the priveledge , plus its just another way for car makers to dumb down drivers . Hi Ace still looks like a box on wheels .
And VW should be looking at a number of different engine options for Australia as diesels are still a dirty word in the motoring world , I believe that Europe is not favouring diesel commercial and private vehicles and is reducing imports of those in the coming years .

I've got one very good reason and insurance doesn't replace people.
Peak hour Friday 4:00pm Kingsway, South Melbourne...4 lanes of stationary traffic at a red light, I'm in far-LHS lane while lane next to me has 4 less cars and overall about 30-40 cars waiting.

Mitusubishi Express van coming up fast behind (I see it all happening in my rear vision mirror), later discovered new apprentice in 1 week old new van who suddenly decides to change lanes as it's got less cars in it, get's distracted by a vehicle that attempts to do the same from the rhs.

So the Mitsu van driver, speeds up to make the lane change earlier, never once looking ahead but rather in his rhd external mirror to see when he can change lanes.....smashes into our BA wagon, never even applied brake or lifted off accelerator, force pushes us into the car in front and that car into the next.

Our towbar is pushed forward with attachment bolts just puncturing a small hole in the fuel tank...so fast exit out of Falcon for myself and 6 yo daughter.

AEB would have at least slowed down the van driver or in a newer system stopped him completely. It's benefits outway any negative.Click image for larger version

They may put the insurance up, because cost of the repairing such vehicles. Since, it won’t eliminate the accidents.

Mitsu Exp van is a very old vehicle these days.
AEB would have been only just being thought about back then.

Actually when that accident happned AEB didn't exist, my real point is having such tech today is worth having rather than not as rear enders are still the most common accident on our roads.

                    Why?

Better fuel economy, greater range, more torque goes with commercial application better than petrol.
Though they should stick with the 2.5L TDI.

Not more torque in Diesel: Miltivan TDI 340 has 340 NM whcih is less than Multivan TSI 350 with 350 NM.
TDI also has more noise, vibration, narrow power band, not much power in reserve at higher revs, possible shorter lifespan due to ERG, DPF and clogging issues.

Plenty of 2.0L TDI400 or TDI420 also TDI450 engines in commercial range. The TDI engines life is debatable, if looked after properly they will last many hundreds of thousands kilometres, the same can’t be said about the TSI engines especially if you fit them in commercial vans and they also have their own fair share of serious problems.
