Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Pop top for Crafter.

Hi all, we're thinking of buying a new Crafter 4motion... (still in the planning stages) and the first thing we would want is a pop top fitted... we'll do the rest of the fit out ourselves - done two VW's already - and that way we'll get it "just the way we want it"....
Anybody have any recommendations for a pop top fitter ? ... we're in Victoria but are willing to travel, I've been in touch with the guys at Ballina fibreglass and they seem very competent ... however is there anybody closer ???
Any, and all, ideas, suggestions gratefully received ...

    thanks.

If you buy the LWB high roof Crafter.......you won't need a pop top!

I have to agree, id be looking at a High roof, water tight, no canvas to worry about or dry.

Easy to put in skylights, and add a decent amount of solar panels.

It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than a pop top, i added a Midroof to my build when i ordered it instead of a pop top, best thing i did.

Thanks guys.... yes the "high roof" is also on our radar, as I said...it's still in the planning stages, I rang a couple of VW dealers in Melbourne yesterday and they say the 4motion version of the new Crafter will be available in June / July... so we'll keep doing our research and decide in a couple of months.... in the meantime our roof-top tent on our Landrover is getting a lot of use... off to the high country again soon...Limestone Creek track, lovely spot to get "away from it all"...

        cheers

I especially liked the hint about gutting a written off caravan.
