Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Brisbane recommended mechanic

    Evening all,

My 2nd choice mechanic has just closed up shop and retired. My 1st choice JMAC hasn't done vans for a long while..... can anyone out there recommend anyone? Preferably on the bayside?

I just put some new boots on today, Dunlop Sport MAXX 235/55/17 fitted and balanced by Nitro Crew for $235 each.

While she was up on the hoist a had a bit of a look around and the CV boots have split on both sides and there appears to be a lot of oil leaking around the intercooler area. Not sure what's going on there. Brakes looked fine at least.

    Love to hear your thoughts.

    Cheers,

    Sherwy.

      I'd still try Jimmy.

Doesn't sound like it's beyond his expertise.

Jimmy has gone quiet on the van scene , I found him to be very good but his shop is not quite big enough to fit vans in easily . Now days I use K&G automotive they are German owners and well versed in VW stuff . They are only a stones throw from where Jimmy was located in Underwood

I spoke with Jimmy, he said he hasn't touched a van in 3 years. Shame, he's such a great mechanic with seriously impressive knowledge levels and a good bloke too.

Thanks for the recommendations fellas... bit of a mission distance wise when it comes to a regular service but I will definitely look those guys up when there is more serious work to be done. I have a sneaking suspicion my turbo might be on the way out so that could be soon.

          Thanks again.

          Sherwy.

I'm at Thornlands and use Euro Aus based in Capalaba, never had an issue with them.
