Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2006 T5 Kombi Beach, Trip Computer Display very dim

    Dear Fellow Dubbers,
When my Kombi is cold the trip computer display works perfectly with bright red characters.
When it is hot, however, like on a sunny day, the display is very dim - only just visible at the bottom.
I am guessing it has something to do with the heat of the display.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Does anyone have a solution they can share please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Van Tastic

Fairly common for that ear of cluster.

Happens with MK4 Golfs and B5 Passats, too.

Solution is to send the cluster away and have the LCD screen replaced.

I think mine is not as bright as when it was new, but its still usable.

Love your name Van Tastic, a few years ago I made up a label for my beach called 'Trippin the life van tastic' from the old song 'Tripping the light fantastic'.

LOL, Maybe that's why some of us are attracted to these vans instead of red sports cars.

Very true I went from a Morris Minor to an SV1 Valiant then to a VF Valiant wagon 318 V8 and then to a diabolical Toyota Hi Ace [what a piece of S****t ] Then a Bedford CFS Van 6cylinder . and then finally after a couple of Fords and Holdens my first VW in 2000 and been with them ever since .

Hey Umai Naa, thanks for the tip. I'll look into places that repair such things.
