  • Easter Tripping in your van.

Happy Easter everyone from not so sunny Qld so far , interested to see where peeps are going this long weekend . We are staying home as the roads north and south of us will be clogged with commonwealth games traffic especially the Gold Coast region . Funny thing is all these tourists are heading into the coast for the games while half the Goldies local population are leaving for the duration !! We are heading west on Sunday the only place with nothing happening HA HA , going to Toowoomba Sunday for the markets and then onto Hampton for lunch coming home via the Esk Hampton Range Road through Esk . I love the drives through the ranges the VW is perfect as you get a better view from the elevated seating position , with all the people away at the coasts it should be good driving on quiet roads .

Nice trip out to Toowoomba and then down the range via the Ravensbourne National Park , the beast looks good against the valley vista looking back towards Brissy .

No Easter trip for me because I'm extremely fortunate to catch up with my wife and daughter in Paris next week. I hope all those traveling over the break get home safely.

We hadn't planned to go anywhere over Easter but ended up travelling down to Evans Head yesterday for the day to visit our son who is camping there with his wife and 6 kids (1- 12 yr old) and deliver a few Easter eggs!

On the way home we couldn't believe the traffic build-up as we neared the Byron Bay turn-off. Because of the Bluesfest festival the left hand lane was at a standstill for around 3km to northbound exit with police cars being very prominent ... I'm glad we weren't heading in there!

The caravan tows like a dream and we got 12.5l/100km on the way up and 13.something on the way home.

I must say popping the top and putting the legs down on a caravan beats setting up a tent by a long way, particularly when we didn't roll into the camping area in Sydney until about 10.30pm.

What breed do you show Tonymax ? we used to trip around all of Queensland and did a couple of shows back in the late 70,s and early 80's in Sydney , mind you in those days we had at first a VF V8 Valiant wagon and then a Bedford CFS van for our Old English Sheepdogs . Yes 3 Old English Sheepdogs my girlfriend [now wife ] and myself packed into the wagon plus camp gear it was fun !!

I had a Bedford van as well!
They can't say the Transporter wasn't modelled on it!

Yes and at least they shoved a Holden 202 6 cylinder with auto under it , made for a good drive and yes not too far removed from todays Transporter , I wish I had some photos of mine it was heavily customised .

Our current show team is two greyhounds (mine) and four whippets (wife). One of the whippets is from our first litter whelped 13/12.

We have now had the van fitted out with crates to house the dogs and show gear in the climate controlled comfort with us, and the caravan is a much better option for weekends away than the tent and dog trailer we used to take away with us with our old X Trail.

The vans look great - the white looks really good with tinted windows.

What's the ball weight of the caravan Tony? My T6 Multi has a maximum weight of 100kg and am curious what the ball weight of the caravan is.

It's pretty close. My T6 has the same 100kg limit.
