Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just realised my ‘12 multi has no spare wheel, only puncture kit!

I just wish Europen manufacturers would wake up to local conditions here in Aus . If they saw the sort of roads we have to cope with they would change their way of thinking . Last year I was coming back from a job west of Brisbane and there was a piece of metal that was dropped from a tradies ute or a truck on the road , it completly destroyed the tyre and if I had a space saver it would have cost a fortune to get a tow truck or flat bed to get home again . Many country roads can be just as brutal .

I’ll source a spare brace and fit a spare for sure

        Tony I think

        Comfortline 215/65/16
        Early model highline 235/55/17
Later models 255/45/18 ( jack & spare replaced puncture kit)

I bought from a wrecker, make sure all bits included, the brace + lock pin + two bolts with rubber spacers

              Regarding diameter
              235/55/17=691mm
              255/45/18=686mm
In my non expert opinion 5mm difference won’t destroy front differential if you fit 17” spare
I fitted 255/55/18=737, I don’t do much city driving but for country roads the ride is heaps softer with higher profile

                Hey Kombi,

What brand did you go with for the 255/55/18?

Just back from a farm stay - got stranded after the standard fit Bridgestones gave up the fight with the gravel roads.

No spare. Repair kit didn’t work. Hopeless.

Thinking a bit more sidewall will improve things.

Have you got a spare? What fits under there?

                Cheers!
                Tim
