DSG 60k dealer service filter change?

Hi guys

I have 2012 t5 Multi. I just had the dsg serviced at VW dealership, it appears they only changed the oil... Should they have changed the dsg filter too? What has been your experience ?

From what I have read YOU have to ask them to do the filter , apparently if you look at the sevice book they do the filter in a Caddy but not the Transporters or Multis etc

Interesting,I wonder what the difference is...
I guess it’s a much involved job to replace the filter. My service book is quite poor, it doesn’t list what needs to be done at each interval rather it lists all service options for all intervals, from memory I don’t recall seeing the dsg filter on the list…

The difference is it's a different gearbox and a different filter to what the Caddy has.

It's not part of the service schedule to replace it on the DQ500 7-speeds. Why, I don't know. I've asked, but no one I spoke to had a definitive answer on it. The original line was that the filter was difficult to get to. Sure, but not impossible.

You'd need to request it to be done when you book it in, not when you turn up, because from what I've seen, not many dealers carry them on the shelf. My local has sold 5 in the last two years; 4 to me over the counter, and one through service via warranty repair. They keep one in stock for me now, but previously I've had to order them in overnight. Seems I'm the only one putting them in at service time.

There's nothing stopping you from having it done. They're a little pricey at around $65, but I think it's good peace of mind knowing that it's been done.

Hell yes I would ask for the filter to be done on ours when its due , no way I am going through the same S***T that happened last time when the dealer would not remove the sump and replace ours which lead to the auto self destructing when that filter became BLOCKED . Yes it was the Tiptronic box but a fliter does exactly that filter fluid . VW should have shot the fool who thought auto fluid would retain its viscocity for LIFE , and don't ask VW what is life because they don't know ! Ok where's my meds I had a flash of dejavu coming over me then .

I performed a 120K service on one a few weeks back. Oil and filter looked pretty clean, considering the last shop that maintained it, didn't bother servicing the DSG at all (ex-police fleet).

These don't seem to generate a metalic sludge like transmissions of old.

There you go, first hand evidence that it may not be necessary after all…. I have noticed after the dsg service the transmission is quieter (less whiney)

The filter is an additional charge in this instance.

Filter should be $65~ plus labor? How much labor is involved?

Funny how when I bought the car it was "capped" price services and it was insinuated that it would be lower but if it actually needs more service items it would be "capped".

But now when I speak to the service department it always costs the max capped price! My first service had a whole page of work on the receipt..... yet when you look at the actual "work" all that was done was a oil and filter change and topped the wiper fluid up. Everything else was a "check".

Where can one buy a service/ workshop manual for the T6?

The prices for the services as per the schedule, are capped across the dealer network. To me, it doesn't imply that they're at a reduced price. It's just the same price, regardless of which VW dealer you go to.

It's worth going to the website, and seeing how much it'll set you back once you put your vehicle's information in.

Done my dsg service myself oil & filter $260 , (repco) it is a bit fiddly to get to filter, but doable, I did mine on my sloped drive way with ramps , & measured how much I drained then had funnel & hose back though filter chamber, bit slow , but now gear changes are way smoother. 2011 t5 2.0 diesel tdi340. 120k
