  • RCD510 upgrade

    Hi all.
So planning on upgrading the old head unit in my t5 multivan to a Delphi RDS510. been reading about this battery drain issue. From what I've found this is only on earlier models from a certain date, but haven't found anything that actually tells me what date/year it was.
I do not have vcds to see what version it's on.
    Here's my van specs:
    VW T5 MULTIVAN TDI340 COMFORTLINE
    7SPD AUTO 2.0L 4 CYL DIESEL
    VIN: WV2ZZZ7HZCH027
    YEAR: 2011
    ENG: CCHA
    Any advice would be great.
    Cheers
    Riche.

There are lots of head units that will fit your T5 we have changed ours to a Chinese no name ones no problems , the Delphi is also made in China according to reports on the net . We don't have any issues with battery drainage . Maybe some of the stuff out there clashes with the can bus which I have heard in some early T5,s could cause battery drain . The ones we buy plug straight into the factory plugs no coding required . steering wheel fuunctions work reverse camera etc .

Should be here in next few days, so will let you know how it goes. Hopefully it's just plug & play[emoji2]

If it,s not plug and play then it,s off to your friendly " I can fix it and lighten your wallet " VW dealer who can do the coding . I could be wrong and will be happy for you if proven wrong .

I don’t think that it needed to be pointed out. Most people would guess that many products, not just automotive in nature that carry big brand names are also built in the factories in China to save on labour cost. But they keep them under control making sure they don’t damage their reputation. You can’t say the same about many Chinese products.

Yes I would agree with some of those comments , but even with the backing of the factory it does not always mean it works. I can tell you I found this out recently with my business , I sourced a Tiguan part made for VW in China and it did not work in the cars . The original factory ones are made in Slovakia and are fine , yes the Chinese do make some crap but hey so did the Japanese and other emerging countries around the world that produce products . Not many people would know some of the history of Toyota in Australia , back in the early days Thiess Mining started importing the first 4wds from Toyota to use in their mining sites around Australia . They litterally feel apart and within six months half of the fleet were off the road and the rest cannabilized for parts. Toyota ended up taking the rest of the vehicles back to Japan to investigate why they failed so miserably . The Chinese will over time improve their products as they compete on the world stage .
