Hey all. Just wondering if 20s on a 4motion is doable. I'm interested in some x5 5 spoke wheels, but they're 20". No drop.. But will soon.

No offense but 20,s will probably need such a thin tyre to keep the diameter within legal specs that the ride will be fairly awfull , I tell my clients who come to me with extreme rattles in parts of their cars that rubber bands do not work on vehicles . The only exception would be those vehicles that have had hundreds of thousands of dollars developing a suspension combination that will give some sort of acceptable ride . .

Also, check to see if it is legal in NSW to go up from 16-17 inch to 20 inch?

The ride will be shocking after you put on the wheels, tape your fillings in and find a good back doctor as it will be a harsh ride.

18 s would be the best option in my opinion , I think if you look at the tyre placard in the DS door pillar frame 18s are the biggest VW seem to recommend , I cant be certain if its different for higher speced models like 4 motions or Multi vans etc . When I fitted some 17,s to my work van some years back they came with near new lo profile tyres , they lasted just a few short weeks as the pounding from those tyres shook the hell out of both driver and van . I then fitted correct 17 tyres with correct diameter and bliss returned . I suppose 19s, would work but as BRYN pointed out they will be teeth rattlers and a Chiropractors best friend .

Tire Size Calculator

You'll need a 30 series tyre, like a 225/30/20 or a 235/30/20 to keep rolling diameter and rub likelihood to a minimum.

Width and offset will play a significant factor aswell.

It would probably suck as a daily.

18's would be my choice if i went bigger than 17's, as a daily driver.

I'd consider 19's over 20's, but it does come down to find rubber thats legal.

The vans do look sweet with larger rims and lowered, but that look has its downsides.

20" wheels will probably allow you cheaper tyres, 19" are fairly rare!

I went ahead with 19 inch rims and h&r 40mm drop
Then fitted michelin primacy st 245/45/19 $320 each on a set of amarok repainted rims.
Could not be happier ride is not the wallowy, firm but not ridiculous harsh.

Fitting blisten b8 schocks next week, just to soften the initial part of the stroke (it’s not a fan of gravel road corigations)

The biggest change for me was the sport tyres instead of these truck tyres it came with.

The shocks I got out of England.
chilli Jam vans and van style will post to Australia.

Had the blisten b8 shocks fitted. Much better initial bump plushness (corrigations no more walking around at higher speeds).
rest of the ride is firm but not harsh.
No stiffer then a golf r in normal mode.

Very happy with the the set up now.

Just 40mm springs but got 15mm back with the larger wheel. Total drop 25mm so still enough ground clearance.
