      • Small update for the sake of it..

Got new tyres the other week (Before DOVW) because my fronts had scrubbed out on the inside. Silly me not getting a wheel alignment after i lowered it. I ended up getting MAXXIS MTV (i think thats the code for them.. Anyways, the performance ones) and they're fantastic. Very quiet, ride better and have alomost as much grip as the bridgestones. They haven't worn at all going down to Melbourne and back. Very happy.

The shocks have bedded in nicely now and i'm extremely happy with them. I get lots of comments about the caddy now. How cool it looks, how well it rides, how hard it goes, how well it handles etc. I really can't complain about anything.

        Except...

The bloody gearbox has started crunching going into second when hot above 3000rpm again.. So looks like i'm going to have to take it back to VW and get them to fix it. Not happy, Jan.

Disappointing, because its such a great vehicle and the gearbox is giving me trouble..

          • No problems what soever. The van is just great. Still getting excellent fuel economy, still rides sweet.

Suspension was the best thing i ever did. Everyone comments on how well it rides and especially how well it sits on the road and handles.

I've got a split EGR i think (haven't had a chance to check it out, but Tim reckons it's mostly likely that, given the oil leak), but other than that no mechanical problems of any kind, at all. (Touch wood! haha).

I had to get the gearbox done under warranty and they changed some synchros and baulk rings. Never had a problem since. I changed to Redline MTL gearbox oil a few months ago and it was a definite improvement. I'd whole heartedly recommend it. GB is smooth as silk now.

No colour coding (And there never will be!!!!). Haha.

                    • The KW suspension kit seems the go, looks excellent I must say. One question though, when you fitted the lowering blocks on the rear is there some kind of position marker on the leaves or is it a measure up job?

Lowering blocks? It's a full kit with all the associated bracketry. There's a pin that the axle locates in on the spring. Very simple. You don't need to measure anything except the perch height on the front.

                        • for the as yet uninformed like me. how much mechanical styff in a caddy maxi van is from or could be pulled from a golf GTI.
What about the front grill bumper section on a caddy it looks very basc could it be changed for something? That 'turkcom' site although I couldnt read there dopy lingo there was one that stood out, where would those body kits come from.

Iam in the process of setting up a new business and thinking a dressed up Caddy with the KW lowered sspension, color coded (maybe) custom front end and other stuff would turn heads..
Throw ideas and websites at me.

We do live in the country and will travel LOTS of dirt roads so big rims thin tires are out.

Well despite your pedantry Preeny they are for all intents and purposes "lowering blocks", fancy ones I'll grant you Now colour code those damn bumpers you son of a flatulent bandicoot

I have seen different front ends, but i'm not interested in changing mine, so i haven't sourced anything. As far as i know (and like i said, i haven't gone looking) the ones i have seen were "one off" custom type jobs.

No. They're adapter brackets and plates. You're getting into an argument with a fitter/machist/toolmaker here about engineering terms.. Bad move. Hahaha.

Sorry dude, but why colour code the Caddy when i could get a clutch and the internals balanced for my 16v?

Because the colour coding could be done within a few weeks, as opposed to the 16V which will take a few................decades.... ooh snap hehe
