  • Replace failed Number plate light

    G'day,

I have a MY11 Caddy Maxi Life with a tailgate.

This morning I got a message telling me to check my number plate light.

Now, to the vast number of people, this would not be a problem however I have a disability that prevents me from bending over and squatting. I will have to rig up a ratchet strap to hold the tailgate partially open.

There are 2 lamps, and each are screwed in with 2 screws. The one on the driver's side is not working.

Not sure what the wattage rating is supposed to be to stop the alert from triggering.

I checked the Owner's Manual, but cannot find a list of the bulbs and the wattages.

It looks like they are festoon bulbs (from various sites) it would be great if I can just replace the bulbs.

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks.

Ask a friend to do it and go into dealer parts and buy the correct bulb.

You will be able to get replacement festoon bulbs from your local Repco or Supercheap Auto etc. As for the size and wattage of the bulbs - no idea sorry, but once you get the old bulbs out it will say what wattage they are and you can measure the length and diameter of the bulb to match up a replacement.

        Follow up:

I arranged for a local auto electrician to find out what the problem was and fix it if necessary. I had been a few days since I got the alert (I had not needed to drive where I needed the lights). I left the car with him.

An hour or so later I got a call to say there was no problem. The lights were working OK. As he had only opened the tailgate, he decided not to charge me.

About the only thing I can think has happened is that I had been loading and unloading my groceries from the sliding door on the left for the past 6 months or so and the tailgate had not been used. Since the light warning, I had started using the back and about the only thing I could think of is the "gentle" shock when closing the tailgate made sure the contacts were sound.

I had to head out to an after hours meeting at Western Sydney University on Monday, and I checked the lights and all was well.

Thanks for all the help. I shall get a full set f replacement lights and keep them ready.
