Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Odd noises from Polo GTI 2018

G'day all, just wanting to see if anyone can diagnose the issues (if any!) that could lead to the below noises:
    • Cranking noise when and after travelling downhill on low speed
    • Whirring noise when travelling at low speed (0 - 50km/h; between gears D1 and D4)
    • Noise that sounds like an oil or liquid being transfused when the turbo comes on.

    TIA!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Hard to diagnose a lot of issues over the internet without being able to see/feel/hear the car.

Issues # 1 and 2 sound like they could be transmission or wheel bearing related. Best to have a mechanic diagnose whats wrong.

Issue # 3 could possibly be coolant in your heater core swishing around, which is located under your dash.....very weird that you would be hearing that though.

As mentioned, very hard to try and diagnose these issues without being able to see the car.

hmm, the liquid sound when the turbo kicks in is weird. could be coolant like Lucas mentioned, but maybe also check your oil levels? just a thought, not sure if it’s related.
