Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 98' clicks when in gear?

    Hey all,
So I'm looking at buying a '98 VW polo off a lady, and although I haven't seen the car yet, she has told me of somethings wrong with it. She apparently replaced the clutch only 5 weeks ago, but it still makes a clicking noise when in gear. Not sure how loud, as I haven't seen it. Just wondering what this could be? Is it serious? The car has only done 133000km so it still seems ok.
Let me know what you think the clicking is,
    cheers

Weak gearboxes in those cars. Either factor in a couple of grand to fix the box when buying the car, or get it checked out by someone competant and vw experienced before buying.

I might be breaking my 96 Polo if I can't sell it complete. Gearbox in it is good but worth nearly as much as the whole car ($1800 for the car).

        Cheers
