i switched my chip off the other day to have a drive (for about 3 mins before i got the sh*ts and switched it back on! ) and i did notice that the exhaust (once fully heated up) wasn't as loud 'on boost' as when the chip is on. when the chip is switched on and you are giving it some, the exhaust note changes and gives out an awesome scream from about 4500rpm onwards.....i love it!
also, the turbo spool definitely seemed to be quieter in standard mode as it does not spool as hard and as fast. just in general, the car is a lot more aggressive with the chip. i love all the sounds that come from the car......except for the rattle inside my passenger door

      icic thanks for that

so this applies to a stock car with just a chip? (i.e. no other mods need to be done, exhaust etc)

you got it!....the only engine mods i have are the APR chip and a BOV (which is not performance enhancing) but holds high end boost very well.

              1. The way it makes its power and where it makes max torque... At 3000 rmin a chipped Polo makes max torque and pulls like a steam train.

Most V8s do not make sufficient torque at low revs to be able to stay close and will only start hauling in a chipped Polo (if at all) at higher revs. Mostly at this time illegal speeds are approached and its too late ....

The same (or similar) goes for modified Jap imports. They mostly have big turbos that make mega power (much more than a chipped Polo) at high revs and suffers from terrible lag down low. By the time they hit max power its too late as the Polo is quite a way in front already.
There is this handy little trinket sometimes fitted to automobiles called a gearbox.

              2005 CV8 Monaro - 0-100km/h 6.5 (not old)
              2004 VY SS - 0-100km/h 6.5 (not old)
              2000 S15 Silvia - 0-100km/h 7.1 (AFAIK) (not considered a 'slow' car)
2001 Subaru WRX - 0-100km/h 6.2 (definitely not considered a 'slow' car) - anything from 2003 onwards pulls a 5.7 or thereabouts, which we aren't far off the mark, being a ~6.1sec.

older imports like the S13 silvia or 180sx, even with minor mods, will get dusted. same goes for cars like the VR SS, old XR8's etc.....no competition at all.

you obviously have an issue with the chipped Polo GTI being a quick car.

as i said earlier, i'm not referring to every V8 and turbo import on the road. and yes i'm referring to standard cars because this is what we are talking about, 'the chipped Polo vs. others', and how good our bang for our buck is (especially for a reasonably new car of good quality that is still under warranty).

Let me rattle off some times for you.

              S15 - 6.3 (Aus spec, not quicker jap spec - 5.5s)
              S14 - 6.4
              S13/180SX - 6.1
              Pulsar GTiR - 5.9
              300ZX TT - 5.9
              R32 GTST - 6.5
              R33 GTST - 6.2
              R34 GTT - 6.0

Lets not even bother talking about GTRs/TT Supras etc.

Now with a $30 boost controller they are SIGNIFICANTLY quicker than your chipped polo - I drove a mates basically standard S15 around for 3 weeks and it would absolutely rape the balls off your car and mine (and it has, by alot).

LS1 commodores are running low 13s with an LS1 edit and no other mods.

So while the Polo might be very quick, it certainly is no giant killer! Oh and the polo is a very difficult car to get off the line cleanly, goodluck running your perfect 6 second time consistantly.

I'm not talking out of my ass, I dare my car is quicker than yours and I know what I can and can't beat - Lets be realistic here.

Not sure where you got this from but an S13/180SX will only do 0-100kmh in 6.9 sec.

I'd say so, no reason to have stopped.

                              Correct.

Don't get the trial unless you have the money to buy it, once it's on, you'll be disappointed in your car without it.

Was looking at the price list on the APR site,

"Fault Code Erase/Throttle Body Alignment (FCE/TBA)"

would you actually need this option?
