ooohh, we won't call it dragging. i call it "getting to the speed limit as fast as possible".....and it just so happens that another car is also doing this at the same time .

but as for the ESP, i always drive with mine off. when launching with ESP off in a modded Polo, clutch and throttle control is vital. obviously if you drop the clutch and plant the foot from standstill, you will just get a hell of a lot of wheelspin (unless you run semi-slicks and a good suspension setup) and it will be pointless.

i can't stand the engine cut-out....it doesn't sound very good for the car either (but hey, neither does launching it through the gears) .

Now stop it, lads, you'll get into trouble!

"Kills" posts prove nothing and should be deleted; on the other hand, timeslips and dyno charts should always be posted, in the interests of promoting endless hours of pointless argument.

Bloody bunch of hoons you lot are! They should be targeting the 20 and 30 somethings not the teenagers!!!

I can understand, even though I drive a slow car I still look out for early/mid 90's jap hatches and the occasional r32 to have a go at it, just as again don't get too carried away of course.

Relating to the oringinal question, if you are to buy a Polo GTI this morning and buy a VE SS this afternoon and line them up against each other this evening, the VE will chew the polo up and spit it out sorry to say.

don't get me wrong a polo is a great wee car, but you are not compairing apples with apples

It gose back to the big debait rotary 'vs' V8. 4 banger 'vs' V8. Stock standard the V8 will beat rotarys and 4 cyc with a few exceptions WRX EVOX...

maybe if they made a 5.0l 4 cyc Polo we could really compair the 2 but until that day there is no excuse that can be made V8 will will hands down.

and if we want to get into the " If I spend 1, 2, 3, 4K modifing" on my polo will it win??
            well if you spend 1, 2, 3, 4k on you polo and 1, 2, 3, 4k on the V8 the V8 will still win .

What about if you spend 50k on a Polo (inlcuding buying it and whatever you can afford) and 50k on a V8 (including buying and modifying it as much as you can for the money) then the Polo will win.

The fact is, they aren't equal, but in the case of Bang for your Buck... a chipped Polo GTI will beat a V8 and you'll have 20k+ left over to hire the hookers with regrowth that you'd pick up for free in a V8.

If you want bank for you buck buy a $1000 2nd had car and build a $49000 engine. and it will kill all,

But the question was Polo Gti 'vs' Ausse V8 "how would it go if u put the polo gti vs a ss or xr8? well short nswer is you would Lose and lose badly

Not neccessarily .... Until the latest Motor magazine with the latest FPV V8 test, no Ford V8 had ever tested under 6s 0-100km and under 14s quarter.

Kai's Polo does a 13.9 with max $5K spent on it. (timeslip has been provided)

Motor tested a supercharged XR8 last year ($8K) that was actually slower than the standard car ..... 6.5s and 14.5s respectively.

So in that scenario the $5K modded Polo is actually quicker than a $8K modded (supercharged 400kw no less) XR8 ..... at less than half the initial outlay....

Everybody know a std Polo GTI is no match for even a base Commodore/Falcon.

I think the intention to the question actually was, how much do I need to spend on my Polo to match Aussie V8s.

The answer to that is a simple as $1500 on a chip.....

Very fair comment but that could just bring into play the the person with the Gti put his money to better use than the clown with the XR8,

this could go on for ever and a day

I do support Vee Dub and each commodore or falcon that is beaten by a Polo is one less out there that show that V8's are a thing of the past.

I agree, well it may need a little more that a chip but no more the 3k cold air intake, chip and cat back will have a polo gti sticking it to the V8's

                          Does it really matter?

The way i see it, you shouldn't be worried about who has the biggest and best penis extension. And to be honest, that's what this sounds like.

Sure, it's fun to improve your car, but who really cares whether it's faster than a GM V8?

If you like V8s, buy a V8. If you like hot hatches, buy a hot hatch. Sure a commodore or monaro or XR8/FPV is more expensive, but IT'S A BIGGER CAR! So of course it costs more.

And you guys aren't drag racing, you're street racing. Don't get to two confused. It gives drag racers a bad name.

I haven't said this to start an argument, but it's something to think about..

And on that note ... before anyone actually incriminates themselves ... lets just say that a chipped Pog will mow down much before it and close the thread.
