i'm helping out a friend who's looking at an XR4, which goes for $500 less than RRP on that website. does anyone have any experience with buying from them? would you able to negotiate a better price than just $500 off?

the home page says 'haggle free experience', but if all you get is the initial $500 discount with no room to move, you might as well go straight to a dealer who will easily beat that price.

the website WILL be making a spotters fee on you too, so there is def more room to move if you do the neg yourself.

The XR4's arent selling quite as ford hoped (which is a shame, cos i wouldnt hesitate to buy one, they're a fantastic hatch) so there should be some wiggle room on the price.

Thought about a late model second hand? When i was looking at cars before i bought my pogo, i found a few hovering around 21k with 5-10k kms or so on them

i actually feel a little sorry for ford engineers. their cars truly are very good but they're not popular. the XR4 is a perfect example; great car, great looks and cheap, but they just can't sell them.

cheers, i'll pass the info to my friend. i don't think he's looking for second hand. his only obstacle is convincing his partner to get the XR4 over a Mazda 2 Genki (i know, i know )

He sees 'sporty little car' ... she sees 'bigger shopping cart'.

Has anyone any experience leasing a new GTI through salary sacrifice and novated lease? Someone at work reckons I might get around $4000 off the price because I won't be paying taxes since I'll be getting it through the Commonwealth Govt Dept that I work for.

                    Cheers

You really need to get advice for your particular situation. But the general rule is: The more you earn and the more kms you drive, the more beneficial it is. That is because the FBT rate (which is effectively the income tax rate you pay on the salary sacrifice) decreases the more kms you drive, and you also save part of the GST on the car.

One of the reasons I'm going with the Polo is the mileage I do, currently around 1400k's per week. It should get a bit better when we sell our house in Sydney and I don't have to do the Canberra-Sydney run every weekend.

Anyone want to buy a house in Sydney?

                        Cheers

if you're doing those sort of kays, you'd be silly not to do a novated lease

thats how i got my pogo

pm me if you want some info as i'm in the industry (although i wont be able to help you with numbers, because youre govt then you'll have an exclusive supplier - ie a company youre forced to use)

1400ks a week? Novated lease for sure

However, if you are moving soon, think about what k's you will be driving. Any less than 45000km a year and FBT starts getting higher, but for most people it is beneficial with a minimum of 25000km.
