Chipped the TDI

UPDATE:

after a good few weeks of it installed the ECU has learnt and now the power is even stronger and smoother...

1st gear is absolutely useless unless you want wheelspin and second really slams you back in your seat, and the torque is noticably fatter in all gears and comes on lower down in the rev range..... Time for more power ?

yup. i want 180hp at the front wheels. when i achieve that.... more power

intake, because the stock one is restrictive, 2.5" turboback, high flow cat and muffler should increase the throttle response, i dont think a new intercooler is needed just yet.

more air + more fuel = more power is the basic principle im working off.

i'm yet to research getting big power out of the TDi, but have started now

Guy told me the std intercooler is very small and a bigger one (front mounted) will make quite a bit of a difference.

its definately on the cards it'll prob be done along with the exhaust.

i am f*%king clueless......

but i too want to get quite abit of power out of my polo.

i dont know anything about how to modify cars, and whilst i know that "i want to get as much power out of my car as is physically possible, but i want the longevity of a stock car that has been driven conservatively the whole time" is a stupid statement to make, but i was just wondering, golfman- how long, after you make those mods to your pug tdi, do you anticipate being able to keep it running nice and reliable before the wonderful journey of major (as in more than a half grand to fix a part, a few times a year) begins?

im just curious as whilst i do plan to get more power out of it, i also want to be able to keep it for AT LEAST another 7 years before i get sick and tired of the cost of maintenance (like the current polo shape, dont like how small cars seem to be getting fatter and fatter hips e.g Yaris, Swift, Mazda 2 etc).

also, what about warranty? or are you more the kind of person who is of the "im willing to spend the money to get and maintain what i want" (no negative implications there) school of thought?

finally, how much do you anticipate spending on the intake + exhaust setup? and the intercooler?

i apologise for my extensive post, however i should be getting $6k+ back from tax, plus a few grand that my dad owes me, and whilst im not going to spend it all on my car (other financial commitments), i DO know i will be a happy camper if i can get my car running at a reliable-for-engine-longevity capacity, whilst still putting out atleast say 110 kw and 320+ nm.

main reason: city driving and racing against other drivers in peak hour traffic, doesnt interest me. but i DO drive up to buller 3 times a week, and when its a weekday, no traffic, clear road, on the last 16 kms up the hill to buller? the stock pogo tdi is SO much fun to drive- more so than my vr6 IMO.

answers to any of the questions, by anyone, will be hugely appreciated- this is where i come for my vw knowledge, and im very open to suggestion.

this is a 2006 car so the warrenty period is nearly over, however i do not take it to dealers to service as i have heard bad things about there service and i trust private VW workshops to do a much better job, ie Volkwerke.

The mods that i speak of are really minor and will not stress the engine, i daresay that the mods being made will take stress off the engine by removing restrictions placed there by the factory, even at the higher levels of power that i will be chasing much further down the track (180 wheel hp) the only thing i would be concerned about is the clutch. The next mod i'll be doing is suspension.

The exhaust is about $1000, the intercooling and pipework would be about $1000 and ill have to investigate just hot much power the standard turbo and injectors are rated to before chaning any of that stuff.

I do not have an Oettinger flash, however, its the one that i would have purchased had the opportunity arrisen to purchase another one at a substancial discount, as Oettinger has a warrenty on any flash they do, they also cannot be detected by VAG-COM if indeed you do need any warrenty work

Just by chipping your TDI you will attain the power levels of which you want "110 kw and 320+ nm" although a little bit less, check out the oettinger website for mor detials about that!

if your getting that much back from tax and if i drove up mt Buller 3 times a week i'd be spending $2k on KW coilovers and $1.5-2k on the Oettinger flash for the car. This would reduce body roll something chronic and give you that extra power while still giving you over $2g's in your pocket.

Volkspower does the Oettinger flash and Dragan at Inmotive will hook you up with KW V2 coilovers (you also get a forum discount from him)

i hope that this answers your questions and that i see another chipped Pogo TDI sooting around dumped on coilovers!

Volkspower provides high levels of service from my dealings with them but i cant speak from experience with audvolks, but i daresay that they wouldnt be in business if their quality of service was poor! I'd trust any of the smaller specialist places over dealers.

My TDi's bright red, no wheels yet, but thats prob the last thing i do, and it definately will have dark wheels on it too, youll see it at the next meet

an intercooler should be on the cards, as sharkie said, the ones on the TDI's are quite small so a big front mount will make a bit of difference!

i cant say im an expert, but any advice i can give you ill give when you need it, so anytime mate

cool. so intake, intercooler, chip, turboback (plus suspension).

god damn i cant wait for a year and a half or so from now, lol. (wont be getting it chipped for around another 3 months or so).

and yeah- this guy must have 17's on because they look quite large, and from memory they are big six spoke, in dark dark dark brown (i think that color is GORGEOUS on cars of pretty much any color apart from dark metallic blue).

the amount of technical knowledge on this site is overwhelming (e.g. a thread i read re explosion timing in different sulphur grade fuels in diesel engines and how this is affected by air/fuel richness, or something like that), but any knowledge, especially when broken down for a simpleton like me, is always helpful.
