I wasn't aiming that at you, it was a general comment. I doubt many of us here use a dealer to service our cars, unless it's a company lease.Originally posted by blutopless2 View Postsorry... just to clarify this... i did NOT take it to the dealer to get it done... and certainly dont take my cars to a dealer for servicing either...

That question has been asked countless times on this forum and inevitably results in varying opinions and spirited debate. For normal use VW state an oil change interval of 15,000KM and with vast sums of money spent developing modern engines and modern oils, who am I to argue with them?Originally posted by shhplit View Postok thanks everyone for their input
so i should change the oil myself at around 7500kms?
If VW tell me that the specified oil is good for 15,000KM under normal, operating conditions, that's good enough for me. Certain to provoke disagreement though!

Hahaha so true totally agree with you, or is the scratch proof paint actually scratch proofOriginally posted by Blitzen View PostYeah, sorry about that...I though you were, but there are some people out there that think if they fart in the general direction of their new car that it voids the warranty.

phark man if it's making strange noises then don't wait for the service interval, take into the dealer ASAP. You've got warranty use itOriginally posted by poloman View PostSO i dont have to get a 6 month service? i havnt gona in for any service yet (car purchased in late november of last year)

On my T$ TRansporter I changed the oil and filter very frequently, fom memory, 1000, 2000, 5000, 7500 then 15000.
A friend told me years ago he did this with his new car, and the motor was fantastic. The Green T4 has now done 146K and the motor sounds like new.
I plan to do similar with the Golf V.

I can't believe this... I think you should give VW Aus a call and clarify this.Originally posted by hkogti View PostFirst service is 7500km, and it is not free... They said it is an inspection service, if i go back to where i bought it from, it is 80 bucks, if not, i think it is about 200 bucks.
15000kms service nothing more than a oil change and check up, i don't even think they change ur oil filter cos they rated up for 30000kms. So 80 bucks for SLX Pro and normal service price about ~350 bit steep huh? 270 goes straight 2 their pocket...Last edited by GTIJNR; 11-07-2008, 12:18 AM.

Im in out in the australian bush.. a little town called perth
Im in metro perth.. and those guys never called me back...
So VW charge a premium, and for all they know i was booking a service... yet they still didnt call me back! bastards!
Im a bit scared about the noise now...
I can hear the Motor whirring when i turn the wheel.. but the scraping noise is annoying and it wasnt there before...
What does void your warrenty?
Im a bit iffy about warranties because... i dont like reading lots of documents hehe
My first real car was a magna, and within the first few months a fly wheel fell off... no damage but scary non the less.. 5 years of smooth sailing after that... hope that its only something minor.

Don't let them say they will call you back. Just hound them, and keep calling them till they listen. I had a similar customer service issue with the VW dealer up here, and had a gut full of it. If you have a problem with your car and it is under warranty, the have an obligation to fix it. Keep calling them, write down the name of who you spoke to, and refer it to VW Australia if you have any dramas. Record of conversation is your friend.

I changed the oil myself at 2500kms and im about to do it again in the next few days as its up to 8000kms and maybe spark plugs too (should have done it at 7500kms). I got my oil and filter from the dealer spare parts cost me $80~. I wanted to stick with the same oil VW service use and I didnt want to use aftermarket oil filter and risk having problems with warranty.Originally posted by shhplit View Postok thanks everyone for their input
