when we bought our polo (jan 07) and our jetta (feb 0 we were advised by VW dealership to bring them back in at 7500 for an oil level check. were told to expect them to use some oil during the run in and then they should stop using it. They said that they can potentially run low on oil until you get it changed at the 15000k service.
Did it for our polo and will do it for the jetta in the next week or so.

Massive waste of time and money. If in the first 15,000km you find it is using more oil, whats wrong with topping it up yourself instead of going to the stealer to do it???

Topping up your oil will not viod your warranty...Unless you add athe wrong oil to it(75/w90 Gear Oil for example or after market thickener, but lets be realistic, nobody is that dumb...)
If you really look after your car, and we all do on this forum, you know to read your service book and see what oil you would need to add...In our case, 0/W40 Fully Synth.

First service is 7500km, and it is not free... They said it is an inspection service, if i go back to where i bought it from, it is 80 bucks, if not, i think it is about 200 bucks.

The first "mandatory" service is 15,000km. The 7500km service is a made up service to make the dealer some extra cash. My dealer, McCarrol's in Hornsby, never rung me bout the 7500km service, and from memory there isn't a place for it in the service history book.

Who told you that?
Read your owner's manual, first service is at 15,000KM. Dealer just wants to sell extra servicing and no doubt take the opportunity to upsell with "extras" like oil, filter etc.

Yeah, sorry about that...I though you were, but there are some people out there that think if they fart in the general direction of their new car that it voids the warranty.
