  • cannot decide between 20% and 35% tint

    hey guys

picking up my polo gti on monday and im excited as!

want to get a tint done ASAP but i cant decide whether to go the 20% or 35%

i want to go 20% for the dark cool look to match my black colour but i am worried about not being able to see outside at night and also legal issues with the police. perhaps someone can help here?

on the otherhand i want to go 35% but i am not sure if this is dark enough. ive done a search on the forums but cant find any pics of 35%

can anyone please share their thoughts on which tint they have and whether they have any issues etc and perhaps post some photos of their tint?

    thanks heaps guys!

Whatever one u get i will be wishing u had got the darker one.

as for seeing outside at night, if its a real problem just wind window down at junctions in extreme cases, ive had darkest legal tint here for a few years with no hassles at al....

i was thinking the same thing as you, worried about illegalities etc. i ended up getting 20% and now im disappointed i didnt get darket. 15% is the best imo. no problems seeing out at night. you'll be disappointed if you get 35% tint; the windows will hardly look tinted at all.

In NSW, the darkest legal tint is at 35% according to the RTA:

got back to my car 3 hours later, it was the lightest tinted car in the yard haha

              thanks everyone for their input!

says here that front window has to be minimum 75%

does everyone just get 20% or 35% all round then?

or for example get 20% on sides and rear and leave the front 75%....im thinking that would look a bit funny

looks silly having a staggered tint. just go 15 or 20 all round.

                    20%.

Driving and seeing out at night is fine. Reversing at night in a dark area can be fun, but not something that you can't live with once your aware of it.

Put simply 35% is legal, 20 is not, but the chances of being pulled up on it are pretty low... but technically you could still be defected and have to pull it off. In a otherwise stock (looking) car you should be right.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Im going to have a shot in the dark here and say if you are at fault then you may well not be covered. Especially if the accident is at night where vision would be a factor.

Saying that i would probably go 20% on mine, it's not hard to remove the tint if anything did happen.

I have 20% and it's not dark enough for me. The front window lets in too much light during the day so it looks lighter then 35% IMO.

darkest legal tint is 35%. although thats not the darkest tint you can get. it's teh darkest legal tint...

just to clarify that for a fwe. 25-20 should look good on a black car.

for those that have a 20% tint (or illegal tint) and have told their insurance about it, what have you told them.

do u just say "hey ive got an illegal tint, can you insure me??"

or do u just tell them u have tinted windows??

                              cheers
