Sje88 is me, Mines broke and been replaced 6 times.. and is broken again they are a very **** design but cool...by pulling it makes it worse.. they have plastic gears inside which runs a rail. it jams easy. without warrety they cost $150.
You cannot access the cupholder from the glovebox (ive replaced the entire center dash piece on my gti)
like i said (albeit it was a little vague)
Open the cupholder.
Recessed into the silver dash piece there is a sort of black, backing plate that surrounds where the cupholder retracts into.
You goto the right hand vertical side (the side nearest to the cd player)
Insert a thin, flat screwdriver between the black piece and the silver surround,
you then proceed to gently 'persuade' the cupholder out from the silver piece by pushing your screwdriver handle in the direction of the dashboard itself.
The entire cupholder guts and all should just pop out.
You cant access it from behind, coz there's a torx screw holding the dash in behind it.. Further the cupholder is held in by clips around this black recessed plate, nothing more, and no pushing from behind will ease it out (tried that one myself, via the 2din cd player hole)
Hope i've been of some assistance
