Maybe a night at the test & tune is in order, you'll need a helmet too. Since spectators cost $18 to get in and it costs $36 to race with a free passenger, I'll passenger with a racer and split the $36 for ya

            HAHAHAHA.....

all i was getting at.....as shaneth said...is that people need to come up with new suggestions. a cruise is all well and good but i sort of can't justify the time it takes and cost of fuel to look at the back of someone elses car from long periods of time (and the odd glimpse of coastline or hinterland before the next blind hairpin quickly approaches). a drag or track (or both) is not something you can do every day and i personally am i bit of a thrill seeker.

what does a test 'n' tune involve??

It's just an open drag racing night, you line up and you race! As many runs/tests as you can get in (or the car/you will take!) and you are free to make adjustments in between runs, such as tire pressure (hence the tune part) or strip the interior hehe!

I've been with both my previous car clubs (Mirage/Lancer and OzMazda) and it is a lot of fun, and social as you discuss tire pressures, temps and launch techniques!

i suppose for those new/ish car owners it would not too much of a stress on the car and you could really test your launch.....would probably be a good thing for it anyway.

EDIT: just looked at the web page....it says you can not be under 10.99sec without an ANDRA licence.....i'm out (i wish)

                    I've got a helmet ... and I (very much) doubt I'll be under 11:00 ... so I won't need an ANDRA licence.

As much as I love drag racing (I built a MK1 turbo specifically for it) I'm not sure if the Polo is the ideal car for it.

A few runs should not do too much damage, but you have to remember that some things are punished severly on the strip. Driveshafts, tyres, mounts and joints, gearbox and especially the clutch gets a workout that far exceeds the stresses road use puts on it.

I believe the stock clutch to be too weak (on a modded GTI) to take the abuse of the strip. As it is mine starts slipping after 2 hard starts on the road ... I'm planning a replacement ....... Guy had to replace the clutch on the red beast during his development process ..... And a clutch is not covered under warranty .....

Anybody with stickier tyres than stock will make the situation even worse .....

Don't get me wrong I'd like to take the Pog to a strip, but will need to upgrade the clutch and the tyres 1st, which will not happen soon.

I was thinking more of a meet for pictures and a chat to all the newer members as an information swap session rather than an "event" but am open to a chorus decision.

Yeah, I agree. Just because drags are in a straight line doesn't mean they don't hurt your car.

A launch will do either of 2 things:
Tyres will stick and clutch will spin
Clutch will stick and tyres will spin

                        I don't really want either :/

C'mon Sharkie, ..give it a go mate!! I absolutely and comprehensively nailed a 9sec GTHO at the drags with my Pog (see vid url below) . With your stealthy FMIC, the sky is the limit

I'm definately up for a cruise or possibly a bit of a track day. I'd get slaughtered on the drag strip!
