Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. i have the Turbosmart Kompact Series Dual Port BOV and it is bloody loud when giving it a push and changing gears between 3000-4000rpm. at other rpm it is still pretty loud but not as loud. the good thing about the BOV i have is that it comes with a screw on metal plug to replace the trumpet turning it into a full plumbback (in case there is any trouble). i tell you what though....chances are you will never get done for it.....when is the last time you boosted past a copper and changed gears right next to him? it'll never happen.

whenever there are police around just drive off-boost when changing....like you would do anyway.

Ive got an APR diverter (BOV) valve on my S3, which is plumbed back.

It was fitted in Qld, but to atmosphere in WA is also illegal.

I understand venting to atmoshere confuses the air/fuel mix and is bad for performance.

you can still hear mine, but its nice and subtly sophisticated, rather than ricey.

suggest you do a bit more research on performance impact to see if it compromises yr performance, and decide if yr preference is noise or performance?

I've got the Forge one ... plumbed back as Gareth's is and it is nice and subtle. If you want rice ... you'll probably get pulled over in Queensland.

My 2c Dave you have a Divertor which is different to a BOV. Divertor has no real noise as it works the same as the factory Divertor. Blow off valves on the other hand exhaust to the Atmosphere. Distinct difference between the 2. What do you have mate?????? A divertor or a BOV??????

each to their own i suppose. i am only 22 and still like the pshhh sound from the BOV. i know that one day i will get sick of it and i kept this in mind when choosing my BOV. the good thing is, mine can be converted back to full plumbback (as said before)....so it will be a 2 min job to change over when i want to.

growing up through my teens i always wanted a turbo car with a noisy bov and now i have it. i just have to wait now until i grow out of it.
some people will call it a 'wank' factor all day long but they are obviously just sick of the noise....something i am not yet.

people will continuously bicker over dual port vs plumbback but hey...at the end of the day the difference is very minimal, it really only comes down to whether or not you like the noise.

i personally like the noise and also enjoy the surprise factor when people hear it coming from your car.

and for those who say dual port increases turbo lag.....BOLLOCKS....since my bov, turbo lag has noticeably reduced.

APR DV + Neuspeed CAI = awesome noises!

I love my little set up - couldn't improve on it in my opinion

I have the Forge Dual Port BOV, and really rate it. It only lets go a subtle noise when you back off the throttle and change gears. Mind you, it will get louder when I get APR'ed due to the boost increase. I love the sound of a BOV(call me rice, I have been called much worse, but never late for dinner..., but it makes the Bogan Falcodore drivers take notice up here when they hear me!!).
I recommend the Forge one, and I looked at the Turbosmart one like Rhys's, but didn't like the price. Go Fast Bits(GFB) also have a Duel Port BOV too.
Also, I have never had a problem with the ECU playing mind games about the BOV, and Forge states that its BOV will not cause a ECU error code to come up, but just be careful anyway, cos its not to say it won't happen!!
