To all polo gti owners out there, at what rev should each gear change be to get the gti singing at its best( i.e should you just redline it through the first 3 gears

I personally try to change at around 5500 when pushing it really hard.FOR SALE

You'd find that with a std intake the Polo develops a dead zone from about 5500rpm.
With a modified intake, ie SEAT, K&N and Forge TIP, that dead zone is gone and it revs cleanly and smoothly to the rev limiter without that dead feeling powerwise. I'm pretty sure its the case with a CDA and Forge TIP combination as well.Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...

I think when the Polo was standard its best to change gears a little earlier like others have said, 5,500.
I have APR, 3inch downpipe with enlarged cat entry & exit, forge t.i.p, forge dv valve, cupra r intake with bmc airfilter.
The Polo now cleanly revs to 6,500 with plenty of power.
Although I still think that if i have enough self control, its good to change from 1st to second (when your into it) at about 6,000. It seems to limit wheel spin through second gear and as a result improve acceleration.
Kind of depressing getting into the polo today. Driving Audi's everyday has made me very tempted to upgrade.
Im thinking about one of the new limited edition S3's that we have in the showroom. Flat bottom steering wheel, sunroof, privacy glass, 18'' titanium finish RS4 style wheels, black high gloss front grille, Audi design bucket seats (basically the same as RS4 seats, without electric adjustment)
If i bought it, id be straight down to APR. 239kw !!!!!! with Quattro gripGTI. Leather.
tint,Eibach pro-kit,Whiteline adjustable swaybars,Forge s/brace,BMC,Forge T.I.P & D.V, Cupra R, APR. EBC & 3''dump pipe

off the top of my head, i think they are about 76 on road. retail.
increddddddible car.
But we do have a red demo S3 with about 230 kms on it.
Pretty sure this has just had a price drop to about 65k driveaway.
It has flat bottom steering wheel, window tint and alloy inlays.
I have had my eye on this car, this would probably be the one i buy, if i did buy.GTI. Leather.

Johan is right ... mine pulls straight thru to 6,500rpm without hesitation now ... and that's where I change.Originally posted by Sharkie View PostYou'd find that with a std intake the Polo develops a dead zone from about 5500rpm.

I've driven Eddy's as well ... same thing, but faster round corners.

I now have the Seat intake, K&N and Forge TIP - was surprised to see how well it powers through to 6.5rpmOriginally posted by DaveMack View Post... mine pulls straight thru to 6,500rpm without hesitation now ... and that's where I change.
..although if you drive like Dave, then don't expect brilliant fuel economy

Hehehe ... well, I always consider 50% of the cost of fuel an "Entertainment tax".Originally posted by GT3 View PostI now have the Seat intake, K&N and Forge TIP - was surprised to see how well it powers through to 6.5rpm

Chasing an S4 through the bends...
Amazing grip, but the car doesnt feel really fast... Nothing much under 3500rpm...

The polo is a good car for the dollars.
With a few grand spent on it (flash, rear swaybar, intake and springs) it becomes a great little car.
But even with all of the APR gear i still dont think it will match the performance of a standard S3 which does 0-100 in mid 5 seconds.
Plus the polo's build quality leaves alot to be desired.
S3's handling is also incredible and much safer at the limit (Quattro) and has 17inch brakes.
By no means am i bagging the Polo, obviously.... i own one. If i thought it were crap id sell it or wouldnt have bought it in the first place.
But side by side there simply is No comparison.
The S3 in my eyes is perhaps the best hot hatch made today and would be happy to own one and keep it standard.
But ...Once reflashed by APR it becomes a world eater.GTI. Leather.

I'd rather a 135i. As soon as the chipping issues are resolved it will kill almost anything ........ 3.0l of twin turbo power in drop dead body.....
Evo's aren't that quick .... for less than half the price a MK1 Golf (like the one I had) will eat it alive ..... I have done so to tuned STI's, tuned EVO's and even a Lamborghini Diablo amongst other things......
12.3s quarter at 1800m above sea-level where a tuned EVO could only do a 12.8 and the Diablo 12.9...... and it wasn't even the fastest MK1 around .....Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...
