Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Pod filter, no nice whooshing sound

So I installed a pod filter in the existing air box, without a cover (haven't had time to make one yet) and went for a drive.

Lots of honda style induction noise but hardly any nice turbo spooling whooshing sound which really surprised me. The previous cars that I had (XR5 turbo, R32 gtst) made wicked whooshing sounds when coming onto boost with a pod filter. Has anyone else noticed this?

On the performance side, car seems slightly more responsive and heat soak is much worse (42 deg intake when 28 deg outside....) cools down fairly quickly once you get moving, really need to make the cover for it!

For excessive noise, run a pod filter without the airbox.
After a week, you'll be happy to have the noise gone.

Do you have the upgraded intake from the front of the bay to the box?
Are you running the aftermarket (pipercross?) filter or DIY?

There are 2 main reasons why you cant hear the turbo.

      - It needs more boost )more boost = more sucking from the turbo)
      - Airbox is drowning out the noise - remove the airbox or make a new one.

Cheapie saas pod. Airbox has no top. Running around 19psi peak. Might try taking out the box altogether for fun.
