Hahaha having tracked the '5 for a few years, I can confidently say that cornering speeds are way up there with the best. In fact the original NAs (first gen) actually record faster corner times than the current NC models even though they obviously lose out in the straight. They're also so forgiving when you get into a slide too, something I'm not so eager to try in a FWD car

FWDs carry way more speed into the corner turn hard early, straighten the wheels and plant your foot when your pointing the right way to get out of the corner (obviously not to the point of spinning the tyres).Originally posted by Roodosutaa View PostHahaha having tracked the '5 for a few years, I can confidently say that cornering speeds are way up there with the best. Ha - that's what I do when I race my Clio 172 on GT4. Never had a FWD performance car in real life.Originally posted by tosspot View PostFWDs carry way more speed into the corner turn hard early, straighten the wheels and plant your foot when your pointing the right way to get out of the corner (obviously not to the point of spinning the tyres).
Where are you located?
I'm in Sydney mate - mmm I should fix up my profile.

....without a well sorted chassis/handling dynamics, there's only so much power you can use. As good as the Clios are, French build quality and reliability doesn't compare to VAG - good move.Originally posted by Roodosutaa View PostI prefer a good chassis and handling over other aspects and so have seriously considered the Clio Sport 182 Cup
"Not expecting MX-5 handling (and let's face it, very few cars in the same price bracket come close)."
Yep, MX5 are very hard to keep up with in corners, and are sublime to drive (chucking out the rear-end is awesome fun
).
"Gear shift - again, very few cars come close to MX-5 on shift quality and the short throws so I'm not expecting the same standard."
When I first test drove a new Polo GTI, it immediately reminded me of the MX5 - precise, short gate, click into place feel.
"Overall I think the car is fantastic value, ...as a complete package it's pretty hard to beat."
Pity, I just sold some parts you could have sourced for your new Pog - would have given you a different perspective on what a well sorted Pog can do to a Clio Sport 182 Cup

Welcome, ...now you're in a VAG car, there's no turning back

Hmmmm interesting.... what parts could these be???Originally posted by GT3 View PostPity, I just sold some parts you could have sourced for your new Pog - would have given you a different perspective on what a well sorted Pog can do to a Clio Sport 182 Cup

Just got home driving through the wet - the car just seems to want to hang on to corners, was going up Pacific Highway through a few bends in the middle lane (road was empty) at a speed where the MX5 would start to feel a bit twitchy if you're not careful on the throttle, half expecting the Pog to run wide or the ESP to kick in, it just took it and went about its business, no lights blinking back or any indication of it going anywhere than it was pointed. Not bad these Conti's, now I wonder what a RSB will do.
The sense of quality is impressive but I still regard the bottom rung Audi's as tarted up Skodas or Seats with better bitsWelcome, ...now you're in a VAG car, there's no turning back

Which is why VWs are the most "honest" cars out of the lot I think. Can see myself going back to RWD some day though - a new Torana might fit the bill if Holden builds it

Hmm mine doesn't cut throttle - just that ideally you'll need to at least blip it up 1000-1500rpm to get a smooth change but most times I couldn't "heel" the throttle deeply enough to get that unless if twist my foot at an awkward angle where it's nearly horizonal to the floorOriginally posted by tosspot View PostI can't on mine, as soon as i touch the break it cuts throttle.

The car is very good in the wet. I'm always amazed at how little trouble I have around corners in the wet and how much faster I push through each corner. Roodosutaa do a skid pan event when you canOriginally posted by Roodosutaa View PostHmmmm interesting.... what parts could these be???

Probably make it more dangerous.Originally posted by Roodosutaa View Postnow I wonder what a RSB will do.
You'll notice Eddy (the one with the most mods out of us all) has no RSB, but he does have a large front one.
Guy didn't have one in the APR Polo as well from memory, might want to ask the reasoning behind this before jumping in and doing it.FOR SALE

The reason Guy didnt have one is because he was concerned about snap/liftoff oversteer. Which is fair enough as Alex had it in his mk4 gti pretty bad apparently, having said that i have NEVER experienced this even on a track where i was going through high speed corners (guy told me these where the worst) and trying to induce it. Each to there own i guess. RSB was one of the cheapest and most affective suspension mods i have done. But this is just my opinion.
Oh and congrats on the car.

Rear sway bar is one of the best and cheapest mods you can do.Timbo and I both have done extensive laps at Wakefield and other tracks on various settings[ours are adjustable]with absolutely no problems.
Understeer is greatly reduced, with no side effects. You can trail brake into corners, and the back still sticks.
Others are running them with good results.
Cheers

While it is a cost effective mod, the WL RSB remains a controversial mod, and in inexperienced hands, can induce snap/liftoff oversteer. VW deliberately induce lots of understeer bc 1. it's safer and 2. will trigger an early response when the car is about to lose it's line and/or traction. With the WL RSB, you narrow the early response to a nano second.Originally posted by MACCAA View PostRear sway bar is one of the best and cheapest mods you can do.
I've chatted with Guy about lots of mods, but I've never heard him express more disdain for a mod than he has for the WL RSB, ..thinks they're junk and dangerous. I had a look under my car recently and noticed RSB was beginning to corrode
