    Any excuse for an upgrade
    That's what I'm thinking too

Bit confused about whether the 02S JWX is the right one (https://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/131621651828).

Gav - not sure about best options for clutch and fly. Might give you a buzz.

Sorry to see this dude. Ouch.

By way of the clutch, I run stage 2 ECS with a lightened fly wheel, Gavin may run the same too... These are ample IMO as the car will lose traction before the clutch is particularly loaded. There's quite a few heavily modded polo's getting around on factory clutches, e.g. Troy. My set-up is absolutely fine for daily driving, though noise is evident when the clutch is out, car in neutral and air con on.

Have you found out the cause - cracked casing due to god knows what or casing cracked by internal failure?

Thanks Sean - I'm thinking stage 2 but also looking at the VR6 option as a contender. Depends on cost/availability as I can't keep the car off the road for weeks.

02S box looks to be the one - just going to do some ratio comparisons to check it all looks good. Hoping to pick one up that doesn't need too much work ie. reconditioning. Planning stage 3 eventually so wouldn't mind doing it right.

Anyhow if this looks promising I'll start another thread on the install.

Finally removed the gearbox today with help from Gav and found the problem.

The diff has punched a hole through the gearbox. [emoji27] probably by one of the diff bolts. So at least the problem has been found.

Next step is getting the six speed to fit [emoji48]

Does the 6-speed require some preventative work to avoid this happening a second time, or are they different altogether?
                      Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Choose two.

Is this the same 6-speed that drops the roll pin out of one of the selector forks?

Unsure if it's compatible but I have an 02M (6 Speed) Shifter and cables lying around if you need them.

Will start a separate write-up soon on the install. There's quite a few examples getting around in the UK using the 02S box.

The bell housing is effectively the same so its bolts on. There's a few minor mods to make it all fit.

As for the longevity of the box - it's built to much the same standard as the Polos 02R box so I'd be guessing they are similar. The good thing is there's plenty of them around so if this one breaks I'll find another one.

Reconditioning is about 1200 but I don't think it's worth it at this stage. I might look to do the diff if this works out.

As Gav mentioned I'm not sure I've heard of this.

The selector forks are coming off the 02R box so I don't think it's an issue for me.
