Sorry, should have said 288mm required for the Polo. Some Mk4 GTI's had 288mm and some had 280mm.

The 312mm upgrade is the one to go for, but requires new calipers and carriers.

Also I think you need to run 17s at least to clear the calipers don't you? For the r32 conversion anyway.

I think these are the part numbers you'll need (excluding the 312mm rotor, which can be had from DBA and others)

          Audi S3/TT brake calipers:
          8N0 615 423 C (LH caliper)
          8N0 615 424 C (RH caliper)
          Audi Caliper Carrier 8N0 615 425 (x2)
The Audi part number of the 312mm rotor is 8L0 615 301 (again, x2)

The stock wheel will still clear these (well, if they have the same offset as mine, which was an April 06 build...why did they change that, Tim wonders?)

I thought this was already in FAQ & DIY sticky, but couldn't find it

Addendum: the critical piece of kit is the caliper carrier, which is -- AFAIK -- an Audi part. The calipers from the Mk IV GTI (with larger rotors) will work, and there's a VW part number (if I knew...). These calipers were also used on a turbo version of the new Beetle

Timbo I was wondering how many pistons in the S3 calipers & are they that much better than stock.
Or would it be better to go 312 with Brembo calipers.
            Hooroo.

Single piston, Eddy. As to "that much", it depends on usage: if you're going to do any track work, then much better, but you probably wouldn't notice it too much over stock size, one you've fitted decent pads & fluid.

As to the Brembos on 312s, I'd suggest checking with Guy, as I'm sure that will put you into 17" wheels and -- as jamesatfysh has discovered -- not just any old 17" but either the default option TT/S3 wheel...or something more ...exotic

The thing is that Guy's (APR) are 328's, so I was thinking of a multi piston caliper on 312's could fit under 16's. thats all.
                Hooroo.

With the Brembos, it's not the diameter, it's the extent to which they stick out relative to the stock or upgrade VAG part above. I'm not saying they'll be a problem on 312s, but you'd need to check carefully

As Jason will tell you. He tried to fit Alcon calipers on 312mm rotors, but couldn't as they required TT/S3 wheels or 26mm spacers.

OLD, OLD thread, but me need to find the best set up I can get & still stay under the 16's.
So far it looks like these.

                            Volkswagen Golf IV VR6 12v > Braking > Big Brake OEM > Front 2-Piece > ES#2525 ECS OEM Big Brake Kit W/ECS 2-Piece Rotors-Slotted - MK4TTBBKNP2PRSLT

                            Volkswagen Jetta IV 1.8T > Braking > Big Brake OEM > ES#3936 OEM 337/20AE Rear Brake Kit - Version I - 33720AERBKSR

Which still clear the 16's with original TT calipers, but what I would like to know is if anyone
knows if MK4 R32 caliper still fits & if it is the the twin piston that I've heard the MK4 is
& that the MK5 isn't, hopefully someone knows.
Me think that the MK4 R32 twin piston would have to be better.
I can't find a template for this one.

P.S. The standard 16's are in use with 15mm spacers.
                              That dam elusive template.

MK4 R32 front brakes fit, but they are really heavy twin piston caliper and 334? mm disk, which is huge, might slow you down a bit

Even some 17's dont fit over the R32 brakes
                                MODS- TOO MANY
