Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Trigger pulled, full set of S3 calipers and carriers on their way.
Will order the rotors and pads from gsl today.
Will only be fitting the rears for now as I've only recently put on a new set of 288 fronts. Have to get a bit more out of them before wife will let me replace them.
Unless someone in WA wants a set of T2s and remsa pads with 7k (1 trackday) on them?

For those playing at home, DBA 800S (T2) rotors and remsa pads for the rears on their way from GSL.
Figured may as well get the T2 rotors for maximum wanker value.
Should all be here either this week/early next. Just got to find a pressure brake bleeder now to diy.

Haven't go through the whole thread yet but I have the Motive pressure bleeder if you need to borrow

Just beware that you'll need 2wd parts - the carrier offset is different from the Bora 4Motion gear.
Just before I regret anything, does this same rule apply to the s3? being 4wd?

If it doesn't fit I have Bora v5 parts in my garage to get you on the street. I am sure the stuff is the same front or all wheel drive

I'm 99% certain my rear calipers are off the AWD bora. Replaced them 12 months.

Even with the wrong bracket, proper spacing and some filing would solve the problem

I guess we'll find out pretty soon. Hopefully will be here end of the week and I'll test fit them asap.

These rolled up today, pretty quick turnaround

Hopefully the rotors will roll up tomorrow, if they do I'll crack on with it.

They'll need a clean. Is it worth trying to flush the calipers out? If so what with, brake cleaner? Or just fit and bleed.

                          I'd just bleed them Lee.

The rotors and pads arrived yesterday so I had a poke around to see how this is all going to fit up.

I was a bit worried at first about the caliper offset

But then I checked out the rotors and noticed a few things.
Firstly they are heaps wider than the oem items. Standard is 9mm and the 256mm items are 22mm.
The offset of the 256mm rotors also appears different, even after you take into account the different thickness. This is what has me less worried.

Anyway I've had a good look at the job, looks relatively straightforward, I've got a dyno day on saturday morning so will crack on after that.

Well the good news is that this is a dead easy job. Taking my time I had the old gear ripped off, cleaned, tin trimmed and the new stuff fitted up on one corner in less than an hour.

The bad news is that the caveat that applies to the bora 4motion gear, as mentioned early in the thread, also applies to audi s3 carriers too.

To fit I would need to space the carriers at the hub and take a bit out of them to clear the rotor. I was speaking to TDIfan about it at the dyno day today and he was spot on.

                              Rotor clearance

                              At the hub

Hopefully Gavin has some bora V5 carriers kicking around!

Love the DBA T2/T3 rotors (I use them in the Pulsar Challenge racing)
