Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

they have a custom 70mm core thicker then the genuine one should work better my airtec seat copy works amazing i give it a big boot full and the intercooler stays like ice same as the intake manifold and the airtec core is 60mm

Thicker doesn't necessarily make it better. More chance of pressure drop and increased lag/delayed throttle response due to compressing air over a greater volume. Also bear in mind it'll need more cutting of the bumper too.

I see an intercooler ultimately has 2 primary duties, to cool charged air, and to have minimal pressure drop. The Forge coolers do a very good job of cooling charged air, but at the expense of pressure drop. The cooled air doesn't result in greater performance given the pressure drop. Seat intercoolers were more balanced - intake temps were quite as cool but maintained pressure better than forge. I can't recall where the APR cooler landed, there was also a random ebay cooler from recollection. Results have been published on here from a Brisbane dyno day from a couple of years ago on a handful of polo's.

                      Looks good!

How did you mount the MAP sensor in the upper intake pipe?

map sensor in so all up this setup cost roughly $550. Pretty straight forward just needed to cut pipes to length and cut parts of the bumper to fit. For a cheap cooler its really good quality. Only thing that annoyed me was bracket for the passenger side is 15mm taller than it needed to be and made the cooler ****y and didnt line up in the bumper but i made a new bracket and worked out all good.

After having it on for a month or so, how are you finding this? I'm extremely tempted to pull the old ebay trigger on one... gotta give myself a decent Christmas present!

does it make a positive difference to regular driving? is there a lot of increased lag or is it more or less the same as before?

really keen to hear your feedback
