  • Just got a 07 GTI. Have a few questions.

    Hi all,

A month ago I picked up a red 07 GTI with 100K km's on it. Stock except some poly front control arm bushes. Im loving it so far. I've been reading a lot on these Polos and trying to learn as much as possible so I can plan my upgrades well.

I have a few questions I can't seem to find the answers to no matter how much I search.

1: Does the GTI have a low washer bottle level alert on the dash? The manual I have says it does, but mine never seems to come on?

2: What is the best Ross-Tech cable to buy? And what are the options for Polo's? There are so many different types and searching has me very confused.

I'm mainly wanting to be able to check codes, easily reset the service indicator, do some data logging. I have a cheap eBay one on its way from China which hopefully will allow me to check codes, but know I will need the proper one in the future.

3: What is the best data logging software?

4: Has anyone bought an IC from these guys? Seat Sport Intercoolers | UNIVERSAL-INTERCOOLERS . Looks the goods and is quite a bit cheaper than Darkside Developments.

My main plans for mods are

    Dump Pipe (Custom)
    Seat Sport IC
    CC Stage 2

    SuperPro Dogbone
    Whiteline Rear Sway Bar
Either Bilstein B12's or MCA Blues

    Cheers
    Luke

    Welcome.

Qs 1. I've never seen it show a light on my car in 7 yrs, so guessing no light for low washer bottle.

Qs 2. If you have an ebay cable, you can try the VCDS Lite version (freeware) to make sure the cable works, beyond that you need to buy the license for VCDS Lite (US $99) or need to buy the full version with their cable for $250 or something.

Qs 3. For data logging, I find ME7 Logger much more powerful than the logging capability of VCDS. Check out netfarious. It's sample rate can be up to 20 samples per second across 60 parameters. It takes some fiddling to get it configured.

Qs 4. I have a Seat Sport cooler on both my cars and many people run them. They are good value for the money. They offer a great balance between pressure drop and cooling charged air.

      Thanks Sean!

I've been researching VCDS more. It looks like I would want the KII-USB one, but could also use the HEX-USB+CAN. Is there any benefit to the second option beside being able to use it on future VAG cars if I upgrade from the Polo?

Is VCDS Lite as full featured at normal VCDS? I assume not, but what are the main limitations?

For ME7 (I haven't looked at this at all yet) can i use the eBay cable or do i need the Ross Tech one?

I am definitely planning on going the Seat Sport cooler for ease of fitting and neatness, but was mainly wondering about that particular seller. Being so cheap compared to others makes me wonder if its the real deal or not :/

I'd also be interested in this - let me know if you want to combine for cheaper shipping

I noticed no pipework done with this - do they also provide kits - or someone else that could provide a kit? Or would it all have to be knocked up.

You only need one pipe fabricating, with the MAP sensor boss in it.

Otherwise the rest of it can be put together with off the shelf parts.

            Will do Julzaac.

Do you have any MAP pipes left Gavin? I seen you had a few made up previously.

I have one I was saving for a guy, that was a year ago, so I guess you can have it. Usual price.

There are some differences between the lite version and full version, though I believe it still provides significant functionality so unlikely to be short changed. For "check codes, easily reset the service indicator, do some data logging", the lite version does all that. I don't know what the limitations are of the lite version.

For ME7, the ebay cables are fine/best. If you were to buy a genuine Ross-Tech cable, you need to run it in dumb mode, so is effectively the same as the ebay cable at that point.

Sorry, I don't know about that intercooler seller. I have a vague feeling I got mine from Darkside Development, can't recall 100%...

There's 2 threads floating about if you go back far enough.

                      There is a list of required parts in this thread amdeman;

THS Seat sport intercooler install pics

                      2x S60 – 51 straight reducer
                      1 x C 51 straight coupler
                      1 x A 45-51 45 degree bend x 51 dia
                      1 x 51 cut straight length x 335 mm long
                      1 x A45-51 alloy tube
                      1 x A90 -51 alloy tube
                      1 x A90 – 51 alloy tube with map sensor
The one question I have about this list is are 2 X 45° Alloy Bends required or only one? (1 x A 45-51 45 degree bend x 51 dia) is the confusing part for me.

From this pic it looks like the straight silicone section and 1x 90° bend are used to connect the stock pipework to the cooler bottom inlet, then 2 X 45° Alloy bends used on the top outlet to get it into the engine bay and I'm guessing a 90° bend in the engine bay to TB? Or is that second bend a 90° and there is no second 45° needed?

Thanks for the offer Gavin, Ill email you now.

                      I got my eBay cable today in the mail and had a play just now with it. Got it working straight away using the drivers posted about in this thread;

The driver link is dead but if you just google the driver plenty of options come up.

The unregistered version of VCDS-Lite seems quite limited for ease of use features, but most functionality is there (i.e. no autoscan of all modules for codes - must check each on individually). This is fine for me at the moment so i'm happy. I will probably give ME7 a go on the weekend if I get time.

                      My car had 3 codes, only one of which i'm concerned about. They were;

                      01598 - Drive Battery Voltage
                      07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

                      00532 - Supply Voltage B+
                      07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

These two will be due to my battery dying a week or two ago. I've cleared them and I doubt they will come back.

16500 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Implausible Signal
                      P0116 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

This one is the issue. The majority of the time my temp guage is rock solid on 90°, but sometimes it will go down to around 70° when on the highway. I thought this was my thermostat and was planning on having it changed soon when I get my timing belt done. But now i'm thinking it may be the sensor. Is the sensor in a difficult to reach spot if I need to change it?

I have cleared the code for now so will check again on the weekend to see if its back or not. I don't think my car has been scanned for quite a while so who knows how old the code is.

                          Thanks guys.

I had a play around with VCDS-Lite yesterday and pulled 3 codes. Two were due to my battery that died the other week and the 3rd was

16500 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Implausible Signal

My car does seem to heat up to 90 a little slow, sometimes about 10 mins of normal driving. I was planning on getting the thermostat changed soon but now think it may be the sensor. Any way to check this easily?

But I don't know the last time it was scanned so i've cleared all the codes and will recheck on the weekend.

You can monitor the water temp in measuring blocks. See what the ECU is seeing.

I've just been reading about that on the Ross-Tech site. In the free version only blocks 0-25 are available.

Any idea off the top of your head what block coolant temp is?
