So I did a 7500km service on the car on the weekend and thought I may as well change to the Redline MTL while I'm under there. Now when I put the car in to the reverse gear I can hear a mechanical/buzzing sound like it's engaging from within the cabin, is this normal?

      Does not sound right.

Could it be to do with the airflow / recirculation feature when you go into reverse? How much fluid did you put in?

About 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 of a bottle. I pumped as much as I could put in there until it started to overflow out of the fill hole.

Need some input from someone more knowledgeable...

When you fill the gearbox fluid, the car should be flat. When the front of the car is jacked / on alxe stands, the car is not flat, the front is high. When I filled up my fluid I used 2 and a bit bottles. It could be that you don't have enough fluid in the box, but I don't want to make that call as I'm not experienced in this area.

Personally, I'd try putting it into reverse with the aircon / fan system turned off so there is no air to recirculate. this should atleast eliminate if the noise is something to do with the air recirc and not your gearbox.

Actually, you raise a good point there noone that maybe Jmac could shed some light on.

What can we do to accurately change the oil to the correct level while the car is raised at the front on axle stands? Can the full capacity of oil (what's the volume of oil we should be aiming for?) be pumped into the gearbox without overflowing if the car in jacked up at the front?

There were a few threads on gearbox oil. The range of fluid varied from most of 2 bottles to a little over 2 bottles. I would assume if you car was jacked up like that, the fluid would have come out properly, but the angle meant it did not fully fill...

Based on someones input (I believe from Jmac, second hand) was recommended to have the car flat with a little bias to having the pouring hole a little higher than flat. Its hard to guess as I'm not sure that all the old oil was removed before adding new oil.

I had the whole car on stands to make the car flat and give myself room to move underneath. I might have to check the level again when I get home.

It could be that it was slightly uneven which meant some of the old oil stayed in the tank, thus not needing as much...

Before I did anything I measured the height of where I had the stands and they were the same height. Regardless if there was a bit of old transmission oil in the tank the buzzing shouldn't just macially appear.

Just to give you a description of sound it's similar to the electornic windows but more softer. This only happens when I engage it in and out of the reverse gear.

I might have to put this on the "to do list" for the weekend and make sure that the level is correct. Wish there was a dipstick for the transmission oil

Of course it can , if you jack it up at the front then the box will be canted to the rear, more chance of you overfilling it then. The fill hole is at the front of the casing. "GEARBOX" needs to be level. when the car is level the box isnt, its the way it lies in the engine bay, i try my best to level the box. I level the car and then trim till the box is level. Correct capacity for the 02R gearbox is 2litres. If you are using stands then drop it onto the stands and jack the rear of the car till you think its level, trim till the BOX is level. Make sure the oil is hot too, if in doubt empty what you got out of your box into a container and measure.
Buzzing noise doesnt make sense really, you mention you filled with 1 3/4 then you must have had the car lower at the back, still having said that it wouldnt cause the buzz. You are going to need a second person to listen whilst you engage the gear imo.

I will try what you've suggested Jimmy and redo this on the weekend. I'll let you guys know the outcome of the buzzing noise.

                          Thanks for all the feedback.
