  • Where to purchase a down pipe?

Hi team, time to start looking at down pipe options.
If I'm not mistaken Milltek are the preferred item? Open to suggestions, and experience.
Also where to purchase one from a company that will send to New Zealand?
    TIA.

I you want to take things a fair way with mods then I'd suggest 3in dump and whatever size back section you can afford/tolerate noise wise. Only drama with that avenue is that it is a size that isn't retailed. It'll have to be custom made, but you can split the cost by doing a custom dump/cat and flanging it for a retail 2.5in cat back i you wanted.
If you don't think you'll go nuts then 2.5in will probably be fine (just atleast try to get 200cell or less cat so you can make the most of it).
Both will need either a phase/stage 2 tune to tick off the cat eficiency code in the software that any dump pipe will likely generate OR you can run a second O2 sensor spacer to mechanically trick the ECU into thinking that flows in/around the cat are normal. Not sure how this would perform on a stock tune (bit strange apparently) but it goes like a demon on my phase 1 custom code with a few tricks.
Oh and in NZ you may or may not have to run a cat. That makes the custom dump cheaper and the milltek 2.5in substantially so.

I don't think you'll find much off the shelf except Milltek. Look for stuff that fits the Seat Ibiza as well. Might open some Euro doors.

From personal experience I vote going a 3" downpipe straight away. Get it custom fabricated, cost wise over 2.5" it won't be much more, and saves doubling up like I did if you decide to go for more power down the road. Noise wise the 3" is hardly noticeable over the 2.5" with the stock catback as well. Just my 2 cents

This sounds great. The website seems to be limited with where they'll ship to; and NZ isn't on the list.

Google tells me that there are several custom exhaust shops in Auckland. Why don't you go visit one or two of them and get a quote. https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sour...haust+auckland

Thanks for that, I'll look into it.
Would anyone else from NZ like to look into this as well?

Amdeman, I'm in NZ too and ended up buying a Milltek decat down pipe from eBay seller junction26m1, allthough direct, not via eBay. If you do that, they knock the VAT off but it was £99 to post. I also had them send me a dv008 in the same package at a good price. They were great to deal with and good value and the down pipe is a quality unit. Took about 10 days to get here. Unfortunately NZ customs screwed me out of about another $180.

I'm very happy with the pipe coupled with Gavin's custom code phase 2 tune, which eliminates the CEL due to the missing cat. Here in clean green NZ, you don't need a cat on pre 2010 cars. It was considerably louder though...surprising how much the cat muffles the sound. Just this week I had a resonator installed in the centre section, so it's suddenly a lot more civilised. Some of the polos have a resonator and some don't apparently.

Louis19 raises a good point re 3" though...depends how wild you ultimately want to go.

AWESOME! Thank you for letting me know.
                            What was the total cost?
                            Which Milltek part number?

Really keen to get this sorted.

How did you find the differences?

How the same or different is the mk4 gti's exhaust setup? I've found someone selling a mk4 gti dump and just wondering if it would fit on my POG?
