Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Attention Stock Gti Polo Owners!

So the time has come where I'm looking to go stage 3 in the near future and rather then go ahead and waste my current phase 2 custom code tune and remap over it with the phase 3 tune, I thought I would offer it to someone wanting to have a tuned ecu in their car, the opportunity to swap their stock one with me at a discounted rate. So the buyer would get a phase 2 tune at a discounted rate, and I can remap the standard ECU, a win win situation I believe

If anyone is interested let me know

Aren't the ECUs coded to a VIN or the body computer or the keys?

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

Yeah, but I can fix that. So it's no big deal.

Newbie to Polo's and VW's in general, what gains would one get from this? I have a 2006 Polo GTI as well.

You are looking at around 50-60hp at the crank but you'll be needing a downpipe to use this ECU.

              Yeah, what Gav said
Either a 2.5 or 3" downpipe is needed. Pricing varies quite a lot depending on where you go, have heard of people getting them done anywhere from $400-700 for the same product so it pays to do your research and compare shops.

So is this a plug and play swap for my car? Or do I need to have a few things tweaked as stated before? I'm def interested..

Too late mate, it's gone. I can do you an original Phase 2 tune if you have a downpipe fitted.

Even if you don't decide to get a downpipe and stage 2, I (and many others) can highly recommend Gav's stage 1!

+1, Highly recommend Gav regardless of if you go phase 1 or 2 but if you plan on going phase 2 at some point save yourself some coin and get a downpipe installed first. If you can afford to get the tune done at the same time get a 02 spacers so you can run it on the std tune without any dash lights appearing.

Ok cool, I might go into a few places and price a downpipe then. I'd rather go straight to a stage 2 and save money on getting it tuned a second time. Am I able to post you my Ecu to be flashed Gavin? I'm in Melbourne. Or do you need access to the car for logging and what not? I'll most likely get it all done once my tax comes through. Thanks.

Absolutely, I can load the tune and ship back to you. But you need to be able to log it with VCDS or ME7 logger to check the timing and add extra with unisettings. All of which I can lead you through.

Ok, thanks a lot for your help! I'll look into vcds and me7 logging over the next few weeks and also read up a bit more about the difference between stage 1 and stage 2 tunes, figure out if the performance gains between the 2 are worth the cost involved with getting downpipe and cooler. Thanks again..
