  • Fuel Pressure Regulator

Does anybody know if there is any benefit by either

    1. Replacing the std 3bar FPR with a 4bar OEM FPR ?

    2. Replacing the std 3bar FPR with an adjustable FPR and spending some time to set up the ideal pressure?

On my VR6 I actually gained quite a few kwatw by fitting an adjustable one and setting it up on the dyno.

I know the 4bar is a requirement for the K04 upgrade but any benefits with the std turbo?

An adjustable FPR allows you to have some control over your fuel mixture settings. I don' know how the Polo ECU works but it is possible that it will correct its self no matter what setting you have on your FPR.

The FPR works by building more pressure at the injector. So when the injector opens it will squirt more fuel through due to the higher pressure behind it. That way you can run a more rich setting on the car.

I personally wouldnt bother trying it because I think the ECU will detect the extra rich fuel and will shorten the injector pulse (the time the injector stays open for fuel to pass through). Therefore without a remap, remember the KO4 comes with a remap of the ECU, you could just be wasting your time and money.

        One other thing...

This mod is often done when you need to feed the engine a bit more fuel without having to spend big dollars for higher 'cc' (flowing) injectors.

Buba is correct, the ECU will just pull the extra fuel out of the cars until it throws a long term fuel trim fault code. ME7 is good (and bad) like that - forget the old days Sharkie, the ECU's have caught up.

Mind you a 1.8t with a pull through sidedraft Weber & some big jets might help!

Hi my 2c- this mod may or may not work, Me7 is very powerful and even witha Chip tune the software is still designed around the 3.0 bar reg. I dont think in my opinion that it would throw codes but the only way to find out if you have gains if any is to dyno the thing, then swap to 4.0 bar and redyno. You may get something out of it but my feelings would be that you would in actual fact lose power top end
